Transport Workers Union, Queensland Branch Took Membership fees did not protect my interest. regarding driving hours Brisbane Queensland Australia
This complaint is not about the Transport Workers Union in general, its just about the Queensland branch of the Transport Workers Union.
The role of the Transport Workers Union is to look after the employment conditions of its paying members. That is making sure that members are paid the correct wages,(which in Queensland Australia are the lowest in the country), Making sure that drivers are not forced to work illegal hours, or drive unroadworthy vehicles, or work in unpaid time, or allow harassment of workers from greedy bosses who could only be described as slave drivers. and to protect its members from unfair dismissal.
In my case they took my money for membership and when I was unfairly dismissed from my driving job (refusal to drive illegal hours without an adequate rest breaks)they did not support me at all.
It is clear that they just took my money on the pretense of enforcing the above and did nothing more about it. Recently a truck driver was followed from Sydney to Ayr in North Queensland a distance of 1993 kilometres in 24 hours by a tv crew and it was found that the driver drove his truck without stopping for a meal or sleep. The Queensland branch of the TWU didnt seem to care. They are just happy to sit back and accept money from members and do nothing about it. I have approached the TWU secretary Hughie Williams and he just wanted to fob me off. This to me is a rip off on a large scale.
