These crooks sent a check enclosed with my mortgage statement - if you cashed the check (read the fine print) you agreed to sign up for their "service" and automatically be charged $9.00 / month. I laughed and tore up the check.

I stopped laughing when a $9.00 charge apeared on my next mortgage statement. I called Countrywide Financial and they said I'd have to deal with Trilegiant directly. After a phone call and a lot of run-around, Trilegiant agreed to stop the charges and show proof that I had authorized them.

It never happened! I had to contact the fraud department at Countrywide and threaten to involve them in a consumer fraud action before they stopped the charges, but I'm still out $18.00. They also promised to get my $18.00 back, but I've yet to see it.

Finally got a refund

After these folks claimed they had mailed a refund in Jan that I never saw, I complained to the Conn. BBB (They sent me a note saying they wouldn't touch it, and don't bother them about it anymore), the Conn Atty General (No response) and the Oregon Atty General (they said they were making inquiries).

But I finally got a check for $18.00. I guess if you put enough heat on, they'll pay back the ill-gotten loot. Now if I could just get some Atty General interested enough to shut them down.

The Trilegiant people claim they mailed an $18 refund on 1/27/04. They must have forgotten the stamp since I've seen nothing.
