Same story as most here. Thought I was calling the hotel Le Merriden directly, when I got some foreign boiler room,bad connection dude, who proceeded to gave me a fair price for the room. This was not a cheap room, well over $350 per night.

I questioned him if I was calling the hotel and he said yes, reservations! He said I would get an email detailing all in 15 min, but like everyone else, that never came.They likely don't send emails, because you would see the amount of the "special service fee" that was never disclosed.

The hotel also doesn't give you a a bill so there is no hard copy unitl you get your CC statement which just shows the total. I found this to be really odd..not exactly friendly to the business traveler looking to itemize his expenses.

I did get through to a Travres rep who apologized, but said all companies charge fees. That one made me chuckle.

Amex immediately credited my account for the difference. The most amazing thing is that Travres is an affilate of Expedia, which I thought was a reputable company. You would think they would have tighter standards. Apparently not.
