I discovered the Rip Off Report in January after being laid off from my job. I was on the open job market for the first time in years and it's a scary world out there these days, especially the newspaper classified ads.

A week after I was laid off, I responded to a "Sports Minded" ad in the paper. Lo and behold, I ended up at a Trek Alliance flopportunity meeting in So. Charlotte. You've all heard the stories, the cheering, brainwashing, etc. and it was the same for me.

After the initial blast from the gang, my "sponsor" asked me where I saw myself being in the future and I told him the bathroom, I had to go bad! And I scooted out of there quick!

Next up, YASNI Group. They're Cydcor. A year later, they were Matlock Solutions, same building, same spiel. Last week, they advertised as YASNI again, and I've seen Monster postings in Atlanta with the same "HR manager's" name as the person supposedly in Charlotte.

Needless to say, I ran away from this one.

Primerica, on the other hand, nabbed me. How could Citi do anything wrong? I responded to an ad that's been posted a few hundred times now:
"Busy Fortune 50 subsidary executive needs motivated person to work in his office. Must have strong desire for high income."

For those of you in Charlotte, this ad is always the very first ad posted in the "management" section of the classified ads every single Sunday.

I responded and was contacted by Andy Roussis, RVP in Charlotte, formerly of the Conn. area.

I went through the op, the 199 and the Tuesday/Saturday routine. Due to circumstances, I couldn't really dedicate to this until a later date, but I was working on the 6/63 studies.

Finally I had time to perform due diligence on Primerica and I was truly sickened by what I learned. I got out the next day, got 159 back but my securities account took over 6 months to extract from these guys and I lost nearly 3 grand between the market flux and the fees for moving the account. I'm still considering a call to the AG's office on that, but I'll get nothing from it.

After I separated, I had to turn off my cell phone and turn the ringer off my home phone due to the repeated calls from the Primerica people trying to figure out why I would leave such a great opportunity behind. Before the calls were over, I was being lambasted for quitting and being told that I "owed them a call to explain myself," and that, "They deserve the respect of a phone call." Nope.

Primerica is still alive and well here in Charlotte, Cydcor is obviously still going as they keep changing their name, but Trek Alliance has left their previous office if not the city itself.

Folks, I'm not a naive person and I have a strong bullcrap detector most times, and 2 out of the 3 MLM companies I interviewed with didn't get me. But one is enough, isn't it?

These companies prey on people like me, unemployed, desperate for work and needing a way to make money. I don't consider myself a greedy person, but who wouldn't want to make 100 grand?

If you, like me, have a college education, you know you have opportunities in the real world, not MLM's. Do your research, as I finally did, and save yourselves from wasting time with these idiots.

I am now addicted to a new cult, coming here, and some other sites, to read up on the latest and greatest scams out there. I love the nearly incoherent babbling from the supporters of these companies, railing away at lazy cows like myself. You can feel the op meeting washing away every time you read one!

And yes, I am gainfully employed again, in my career field, and happy to be a cow again.
