Trek Alliance scam - hitting on job seekers

I was called yesterday morning by Jason Nivens at Dynamic Solutions in Atlanta. I can't remember his exact wording, but I had the impression that his company did recruiting. He said his name/company very quickly, mentioned that he got my resume from Monster.com, and verified that I'm actively seeking my next job opportunity. He asked me about the type of positions I'm looking for, then told me that his company might have something for me. He told me that their company just opened their Atlanta office, they're growing quickly, and that they "have opportunities available." He asked to see me right away...either yesterday or today. I asked about information on his company, but he told me he'd give me all of the information when I got there. I should have known....

I went to his office today, expecting a traditional interview. Instead, I walked into a large conference room with about 20 other job seekers and about 5 representatives from the company. At 1:00, we sat down, were given a sales pitch, and were asked to become sales reps for Trek Alliance selling water filtration systems, cleaning products, skin care, and nutritional supplements. We were given a presentation about the products and how we could make money by selling them...and by recruiting other people to sell them (thus the claim that Dynamic Solutions is in "recruiting"). The "company representatives" were even making "oohs" and "aahhs" during the presentation for added effect. The company basically operates as a pyramid scheme. After 30 minutes, they took a break and allowed those of us "who want to stay in the traditional corporate hierarchy" to leave before going more deeply into how to sign up (and spend money on their training system). About 2/3 of us left....we all had been told different stories, and we all felt extremely deceived. However, we all had one thing in common....all of our resumes are on Monster.com. Apparently, they're just pulling resumes and cold calling job seekers...a very manipulative tactic these days.

Again, my contact's name is Jason Nivens, but they've got several people calling candidates. I only met one other person from the Atlanta office...her name is Susan (I didn't catch her last name). Their phone numbers are 770-645-0107 or 770-645-6699, and they show up on Caller ID as "Global Intelligence" (instead of Dynamic Solutions). They're located in Northridge Pavillion 3, 1301 Hightower, Suite 250 (near 400 and Northridge) in north Atlanta. Real job seekers, beware....!

Truth about Trek & MLM's

#16UPDATE EX-employee responds

Fri, December 20, 2002

The one thing I never hear from supporters and members of Trek Alliance and other MLM's is how much money they are really making. Many of them get frustrated by people who "don't see" their opportunity and continue to talk about how there experience has been good and the people they've encountered are honest, hard working people that want to help them and the environment. The thing of it is, is I think the majority of people in these companies are like this. But you have to understand, if you are an honest, straightforward individual that really wants to help the people you are recruiting you are NOT going to make very much, if any money. The MLM business is basically divided into 2 categories.

The first is the nice, friendly, honest folks who truly believe what the company is saying to them (because many times they are very idealistic in nature). Nothing wrong with that, but these people need to watch out for the other group which are agressive, money hungry, immoral people who see a great way to use THEIR personalities to make money. If you think you can take your warm, helpful, honest, and generous personality and turn it into a million dollar career, you're wrong. But to be fair, it's pretty much like this in EVERY business. The nice, sweet people end up working for the tough, agressive, hard core business owner who is willing to do almost anything for success.

Now we come to the problem with MLM. This system tells this group of good, wholesome people that they too can become wealthy, when in fact the only way they will make it to the top of this chain is by hurting people along the way. How many is another question, but the fact that their will be many casualties is a certainty. The question I have for people currently involved in this companies and others like it is: Are you willing to do that?

If so, understand that their are consequences that come with that. Just look at what Rich Von, Kale Flagg, and all the other top producers at Trek are going thru right now. Many people see these top people and are so filled with admiration that they don't realize that most of the people they've brought into their organization (thru themselves or people they've recruited) have had very negative experiences and some have lost a great deal. But hey, they've recruited a few people who are making a lot of money so it must be okay. That's for you to decide.

I'll end on this. The big problem that people who don't agree with MLM is what people actually earn. This is a question that NO ONE in MLM will EVER answer. If people who run these companies really wanted to put the criticisms to rest they would show percentages of the 1099's they sent out each year. They do have records of this. I laughed a few years ago when Bill Gouldd on 20/20 said he wasn't exactly sure how much money the average reps were making. Yeah right.

He and every other MLM owner are required by law to send 1099's to EVERY distributor that makes a commission check. Granted, these numbers would not include the profits that the IBO's made retailing product, but I think most people would understand that. The problem is they don't want to do this because the numbers would be scary. How many people would sign up if they saw that 80% of the company earned around $2,000 in a year(BEFORE EXPENSES). And that about 5% made more than $20,000 before expenses.

These are average numbers for any MLM. If someone in the company has proof of something different, I'd love to see it. And if I saw some pretty good numbers and that many people were actually making a good living, myself and many others would probably not be so hard on MLM's in general. But the bottom line is no one has been willing to do this and until they do, MLM will never be looked at as a truly legitimate business.

I am laughing at the one that says "there are 2 types of people..successful and not so successful." You have seen one too many motivational speakers my friend. Your rebuttal is nothing more than a rehearsed infomercial.

Spare me!!!!

I am so glad I didn't fall for this. I posted my own rip off report on these guys. I was sucked into attending a timewaster 3 hour interview wasting up my Saturday. There is a reason why these guys don't tell you its MLM before the interview.

Gee, I could have spent 500.00 on training only to make a few hundred bucks during a few months period, while trying to sucker in everyone I know to buy their overpriced junk products. Maybe be one of the handful of people that might actually make a little bit of money. OR I could take a job in a sales position with a large computer company, enjoy top notch benefits, all expense paid vacations given to top sales reps, and make 60k my first full year there. Tough cjoice but I'm glad I chose the latter.

Get a real job trekkies!!!

I had to compose myself because I could not stop laughing. Give up on ourselves? Didn't work hard enough? Didn't invest enough money in the scam?

Neal Sheepie---time for you to get *fleeced*

You have NOT explained why Rich Von was under investigation for sexual assault. what about FTC investigation on Trek Alliance? Their water filters being banned because this kind of water filters is illegal in some states?

What about *paying* in order to join this little scam? I believe it is called "frontloading".

Do get back with us when you've made your first million and we'll see what goes.

*rolling my eyes* Sheesh!

I hear what you are saying and maybe you don't take the time to think.

Me:
You are so FAR OFF! These "real" jobs do not "feed" on their employees and nor make them fork over money in order to work for their companies. They offer medical benefits, 401K, steady paychecks along with bonuses, respect, and a peace of mind.

BUT for Trek Alliance, you hafa fork over moolah to attend "workshops" in order to be anointed as Trek rep and pay a steep fee to rent a desk at the office so you can make moolah which is next to impossible to make a decent living by recruiting and recruiting.

IF you were to work for Wal mart, you would be paid a salary and maybe have benefits. Personally, I find that the older people working there, because they have to, really tans my hide. they worked all their lives at a job like yours. But they enjoyed security all their life. When you put security above freedom, you will have neither in the end. What we are paying for in seminars is EDUCATION and Self-improvement.

How much did you spend to go to college? Did it guarantee you a great job with benefits when you got out? If one never finished college, like the 40% who do not, is there a cheerful refund? America is the land of opportunity, not the land of guarantees. This was an opportunity for you to create YOUR OWN Business. ITs not a get rich quick scheme, it is d**n hard work getting through people with closed minds such as yours and the editor of this website.

Me:
Hahahahahaha! Hahahahaha! hahahahaah! Pyramid scheme stable? What happens when the market becomes so saturated with substandard and overpriced products that Trek Alliance is currently selling? Yup, they go BELLY UP leaving YOU and other "business people" holding the bag. BOOM!

AMway, which currently does 8 billion dollars of business a year, which is a multi-level marketing business the very same as Trek. They have been in business since 1958. Are there still people joining that business? you bet! is it saturated? Not at all. You tell me that Amway, doing 8 billion dollars a year is a scam. Trek is only 4 years old. We are a bit more agressive sure, but that is because we do not want as many failures as Amway has. We would want everyone to succeed and that takes training and motivation. It also takes office space that the leaseholders, ALSO TREK reps pay for in order to have a place to come to instead of homes or the local Dennys.

Me:
LEGAL? Surely you JEST! If Trek Alliance is legit then why there are lawsuits pending along with Wisconson's lawsuit against them for selling illegal water filters? What abour FTC taking a second look at them? Why is Rich Von under suspicions of sexual assault? Why these reps are barely making a living on this pittance? Why the products are substandard and cost 2-3 times more than far better products in your local store? Why are you guys cold calling this people who have their resumes on Monster.com if you claim that everybody is beating a path to your door?

I have no clue about the lawsuits, or Rich Von, and I personally don't care. Our water filters are listed with the NSA, That suspicion was just that, a suspicion and as far as reps making a pittence....Trek has only been in existance for a little over 4 years. There are many many reps making over a high 5 figure a year, more than you. If it take 5 years to retire, I personally know of 12 reps who are in that position. But I guess that NO one makes it, its a ripoff.

Me:
NO, YOU GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! So, the first step is to take your head out of the sand. You're just worried that truth will erode your prospective downliner base and you'll get no one to take that train with you to Suckerville.

Get it through your thick skull: Trek Alliance is a flat out SCAM! No ifs or buts about it! But if you guys want to play the "three shell" game. be my guest!

Sheesh!

Janie - Farmington, Utah

Well Janie, you still haven't told us where the scam is. Are there people making money? You bet, lots of them. Are there people losing money? it depends. You need to read Robert Kiasaki's Cash flow Quyadrant that talks about good and bad investments. A good investment is where the return will pay you back. A bad investment is where you have credit card payments from household purchases that you have to keep paying on with no return.

When people buy inventory to sell, then quit because it becomes too hard for them, then that investment becomes a bad investment over a good one. See, people don't give up on the business, they give up on themselves. Your choice of being secure in your job is respected, however, don't puncture someones dream about making a difference in their lives. These people, like me, don't want to work another 20 years to live on a pittence. If you do so be it. Don't ask me for money when you retire and don't blame the government when you can't afford to buy cat food when you are 65.

Baaa! Baaa! Baaa! Here, sheepies! Time to get fleeced!

Okay---time to look at what you're saying:

Trekkie zealot:
It is really easy for those of you who were part of the 2/3 that left to criticize something that you know nothing about. If you look at virtually everything from organizations to corporations, and yes even the government you will see that it is based on the pyramid design.

Me:

Trekkie zealot:
The pyramid is the most stable shape and therefore isn't corrupt. Now yes when you get involved with a scam then you will get screwed. But it is like Dan commented a pyramid scheme is when you pay for nothing.

Trekkie zealot:
Trek Alliance is a legit multi-level corporation. It isn't a "get rich quick scheme" and if you had bothered to stay around and get more info then perhaps you wouldn't be so completely clueless. So let me ask you something... do you think that Mary Kay Cosmetics and Tupperware are scams? NEWS FLASH they operate with the pyramid.

Trek Alliance is a business opportunity, NOT A JOB!!!! It is more for the business minded individual. By the way, the true meaning of a pyramid scheme is the exchange of money with NO goods or services involved, and there are really two of those which are legal...Social Security & the lottery, both are ran by the government. I suggest you do more learning and educating yourself of the situation before slandering a reputable company & great opportunity for everyone else. Thanks.

By the way, if you like the idea of somebody telling you how much you are worth than go for it..Out of everybody I talk to, there are 2 types of people. Successful and not as successful. Successful people have seen Trek Alliance and approved of it..not as successful people were skeptical.LIKE YOU!!! I would rather take advice from somebody who has what I want financially than a person living paycheck to paycheck and NOT GETTING AHEAD!!!!!!Have fun working your job till you 70.
