In August 2011, I pulled my free annual credit reports.  I was excited because I had paid off a lot of stuff and thought "finally we can apply for that mortgage loan"  NOT!!!  There was an entry on both Experian and Trans Union reports from Trident Asset Management.  Apparently at some point in 2005 I opened an account with BMG, funny, I don't recall doing this, nor do I recall ever receiving any cd's or cassettes!

So I immediately disputed with the CRAs, which of course came back as "verified".  I wonder how they do this since I don't even know who this company is and I know dam* well I didn't open this account with BMG.  So I fired off a DV letter to this Trident Asset Management company.

I received a response telling me my (nonexistant) account was purchased by OPS 10, LLC but that I could continue to contact Trident in regard to this account and that "Due to the special circumstances regarding your account, once paid we will send a delete transaction to all credit bureaus within 30 days so that this account can be removed from your credit history."  Really?  Sounds like blackmail to me!  Not to mention, if OPS 10 now owns the account, why would I contact Trident to talk about it and why would I send any money to Trident if they don't own the account?  All sounds a bit fishy to me.

Conveniently, BMG is now out of business so it's impossible to contact them to prove that I don't owe this money, I've tried, and all the phone numbers are out of service, letters are returned to sender.  So the big question now is, what do I do?  Where do I go from here?

I want this off my reports, but at the same time, why should I pay money that I know I don't owe?  How many other people are being scammed this exact same way?   This is absurd!  I've again disputed it with the CRAs, but I've also filed a complaint with the GA Governor's office of consumer protection (normally you'd complain to the attorney general but in GA, apparently it's different).  If you are going through the same situation, I suggest you file a complaint with them as well at this link http://consumer.georgia.gov/consumer-services/filing-a-complaint.  I'm hoping they will get to the bottom of this.

As a last resort, just to get it off my report, I may just pay the $71.55, but the concern with that is this whole Trident/OPS 10 thing.  I'm afraid I'll pay Trident and then have OPS come after me for the same debt or vice versa.  I'm absolutely disgusted!!!

And the government wonders why people are blowing up buildings and killing each other!  This is why, because everyone wants their hands on our money ... our hard earned money that we bust our humps for, they want to take what isn't theirs, what isn't owed to them.  Ugh

I was also a victim of this scam. I contcted them several times via the phone number on my credit report and had no success. So I did some digging. Since they are listed as an LLC I knew they had to regiter for that name of theirs and I found their application frpm the state of Georgia. On the form was the name and email of the owner (Anurag Sett - (((Redacted)))). I sent him the an email and within a few days I had a response that they were removing it from my report so I requested a letter stating that from them which was emailed to me within a day. I'll paste my exact email below so if you're having issues with them just copy and paste it into an email message to the owner. My "debt" was allegedly from Columbia House. If you'rs is from somewhere else just make sure to change that part of the email to relate to your "debt". Hope this helps.

Hello, I am writing to you to see if you can help me. TRIDENT Asset Management has a collection account on my credit report from your company. They claim it is originally from Columbia House music club from 2007. I have not had an account with Columbia house since the late 1990's and it was paid in full when I left. They are unable to provide my with any invoice or proof that this account belongs to me. Since your company is listed as the filer of this debt I would like to see if you can:

A. Provide proof that this debt belongs to me

or

B. Have TRIDENT Asset Management remove this from my credit report immediately.

Thanks you for your assistence.

The company buys old debt and the company information is below.  There are several well known problems with buying old debt and they are too numerous to list here.  If you feel you are being harassed, or that the debt is not rightfully yours, there are ways of fighting back legally.  Best to do some research on the FDCPA and also talk to an attorney if you need more help to navigate the laws.  The Law is actually on your side on this issue and you can fight back and win even if the odds look to be against you.  Just have to be smarter (which won't be too difficult actually) and more assertive and consistent than the people who try to taake advantage.

The best way to fight back is to make your presence known and to let these people know that you know who they are and that you are not going away.  If enough people stand up and announce that this is wrong and they won't stand for it... then it becomes to much of a hassle for these people to continue working the way they do unfettered.  There is no secret trick to this, it's just takes patience and consistency in large numbers.  Let them know through letters, postcards, emails and phone calls that we all know who they are and we are not going away or will stop until they do.  In sheer numbers we will wear them out and they will go away because it isn't easy for them anymore.

OPS 10 is the guy below and his company.  Write, email or call him and let him know that you are not going to take abuse or harassment anymore.  File complaints with the Attorney General of your state, the BBB and the FTC.

how to beat trident

i have been a victim of more than one collection agency and i have beat them all. here is what you do.

1. file a civil complaint in small claims court or general sessions court. be sure to sue for the max in our state. i am in tennessee and our max is 25k. thats what i love about TN.  it cost about 200.00 to sue them. then sue them for every violation of the FDCPA (fair debts and collections practices act). read up on it on line.  when they call you or say to you "this phone call may be recored" respond by repeating that like your asking a question.  now you can also record the phone call. set them up to say some threatening things to you and then at the end of your conversation say "you know you've broken the law with some of your statements and i've got you on tape." they respond by saying they didn't authorize you to record them so you say i told you i was. then they say you were asking a question. respond by saying "did you misunderstand that to be a question??"  ooops sux to be them.....  then sue them for a few thousand.  you can sue them in any court in the land and they can't stop you.  i live in roane county tn and they would have to fly to knoxville and drive 50 miles after that just to stay in a crappy hotel. when they finally get the idea that it will cost them 8-10k to kick my but in court, they agree to write me a check. i did this twice last year and spent 199.00 each suing Penn Collections and Credit Protection Assoc.  one wrote me a chech for 1700.00 and the other for 2400.00. i even made them pay the bills which were a 75.00 comcast dispute and a 130.00 traffic fine.  my wife said i should quit my day job. my suggestion is to sue all these disruputable companies and make them pay thousands  to try to collect hundreds.  In 2010 i even got Wells Fargo Auto Finance to write me a check for 1000.00 and take back a car i was upside down on and agree to not try to collect the definciency balance.  it can also be fun to screw with these big companies. remember, their size is their weakness and your size is your strength.

Bogus BMG account

#8Consumer Comment

Tue, March 27, 2012

This same thing is happening to me right now! They claim I had an account with BMG.  I have had a account with Netflix for years! Why would I even open an account with BMG?!  This is like trying to find a needle in a hay stake.  I actually emailed BMG and they tell me my "account" was sold to Orion Portfolio.  I asked how can they sell an "account" that was never opened by me?! They said they can't help me and to contact Orion.  But meanwhile my credit report states this bogus Trident company.  And I bought a car back in June and this wasn't on my report but now it just appeared!! Makes NO sense! Any suggestions on where to go???

I had previously filed a complaint with the BBB regarding this company, as stated above.  I received notice a few days ago that the account has been closed and request has been sent to the CRAs to delete the tradeline.  As I stated previously, if you know you don't owe them money, fight them!  Good will always prevail.  Best of luck!

I previously stated that I disputed with Experian and TransUnion.  Experian somehow "verified" and TransUnion deleted the account.  I haven't heard back from the consumer complaint office in GA yet, however, I did also file a complaint with the BBB.  I received a ridiculous response saying I had to supply an account number, which I don't have, being that all I had was what was provided on my credit report.  I responded telling them this.  They then claimed I had to telephone them, haaaa  NO WAY I'm communicating with these scum suckers via telephone, I stated I wanted everything in writing, either through the BBB or via USPS.  They claimed I was being uncooperative and the BBB closed the complaint.  I then re-opened it, as I found a full account number on 3 bureau report from Privacy Guard.  I'm now waiting to hear back from Trident to see what they have to say.  I made it clear that I'm not backing down from this, no matter what, because I know for 100% sure that I did not initiate an account with BMG.  I also advised that complaints have been filed with the GA consumer complaint board and I also just now filed a complaint with the PA Attorney General (my home state),  And I will take whatever measures necessary to get this off my report, disregard my prior statement that I may just pay them, because I am NOT giving them a penny of my money for a debt that I don't owe!

If you know you don't owe them money, FIGHT IT TOOTH AND NAIL!  Don't let them bully you, bully back!!!  It's your money, you work hard for it and you shouldn't be paying on debts you don't owe!
