Beware and be very carefull before signing a contract or doing any business with this company. Checkout and verify for yourself all statements and representations they make to you. I almost made the mistake of hiring this company to replace the roof on my home. However, I had the good fortune of discovering some their deceptive practices before it was too late.

They claim on their website and in their promotional material to have been in business in Plano Texas since 1991. However, when questioned, they are unfamiliar and vague about city codes and requirements. The sales rep for Trident tried to get me to believe that the city of Plano doesn't require permits to replace a roof. This is patently false. It is illegal in the city to replace a roof without a permit. The city requires a permit and two inspections for all roofing jobs. If I had not called them on this, I firmly believe that they had every intention to do the job without all required permits. This is both illegal and dangerous.

Additionally, Per the city of Plano building inspection office, roofing contractors have to be registered with the city to obtain a permit. Despite supposedly being a local company, they are not properly registered with the city and are not authorized to pull a roof permit in Plano.

Trident also uses a non-existent business address on their website, contracts and promotional material. I now think the owner, Paul Willi, operates out of his house and uses a false business address in an attempt to make the company appear more legitimate. Trident also represents on their website and promotional material to be proud members of various organizations like the National Roofing Contractors Association etc. However, upon verification, they are not current members in good standing of any of these organizations. They have lost all credibility with me and I would never do business with them.

I asked the sales rep, John Brannon repeatedly to let me talk to the owner Mr. Paul Willi. Despite his promises that he would call, I received no call from Paul Willi to explain all of these discrepancies. I also left a message at the office for Paul Willi to call me but this call was not returned. After several days, I finally got a call from the owner, Paul Willi. He called, not to apologize. but rather to curse me out for questioning their practices. He used very vulgar and profane language. Very rude and unprofessional. I would stear clear of this company and seek a reputable roofing contractor with better credentials. Be careful!

Rebuttal to Rip Off Report About Trident Roofing Company

#2UPDATE Employee

Mon, November 03, 2008

The following is a rebuttal with regard to the Rip off Report filed by "Dwight" in Plano, Texas.

We find it negligent that a person can file a report such as this without any thought to the consequences of the business itself. Trident Roofing Company never did business with this customer, so it is completely inappropriate to refer to Trident Roofing as a company who "ripped off" a consumer. No services were ever rendered, no money was ever exchanged. This business supports people and their families, and it is difficult to comprehend that people are permitted to make comments that aren't verified before possibly causing irreparable damage to a company's reputation.

An estimate was, in fact, performed for this particular homeowner back in 2007. While it is true that a new sales representative may not have been aware as to the permit requirements in Plano (as he was not familiar with roofing work being performed in the City of Plano), the company itself was well aware of these permit requirements and inspections. At the time Dwight's estimate was being prepared, two previous customers of Trident Roofing had not yet had their final inspections scheduled. This is a problem many times due to a customer not returning telephone calls to Trident's office, their inability to stay at home from work for most of the day waiting on the inspector, or scheduling the final inspection and then not being home when the inspector arrives. In Plano, a homeowner must be at home for the final inspection because the inspector needs to check inside the attic to verify that there are no disconnected heater stacks. If these final inspections are not completed, the City of Plano will suspend a roofing company's registration which renders them unable to obtain a permit. A roofing company will then need to appear before the Board and basically make a case in order to be re-instated. This procedure was in the process of being completed by Trident. There was no wrongdoing or deception whatsoever with regard to this process, and it is a process that many companies can undergo if at times customers themselves do not cooperate with the City of Plano's inspection procedures.

As to Dwight's claims that Mr. Willi was working out of his home, many customers work from their homes and use a different mailing address for their business mail. There is nothing deceptive about this whatsoever! Residential roofing companies undergo many changes in work volume and less overhead usually equals better prices for homeowners. I am personally confused as to why a prospective customer would complain about that! Another claim made by Dwight is that he indicates that Mr. Willi would never call him. If you read his complaint carefully, you will note that he suggests that he kept asking Mr. Brannon, our sales representative, to have Mr. Willi call him. Why didn't Dwight just pick up the phone and contact Mr. Willi himself if he was so concerned with his business practices? The only telephone call that Mr. Willi ever received from Dwight was actually from his wife and this was at 9:30 in the evening, not during working hours! We feel that whatever misunderstandings that occurred in this situation are unfortunate for all parties concerned.

In closing, nothing immoral, illegal or unethical was ever committed by Trident Roofing Company. Trident Roofing Company located in Austin, TX (which is controlled by Mr. Willi's brother and is our sister company), is a current member in good standing of all of the roofing organizations Dwight listed. Our company prides itself on our quality and service and we always make every effort to take care of our customers. We have believed, and always will believe, that the interests of our customers are priority.
