I am a former resident of Trinity Exchange.  When we had a dispute concerning the rent where my $1117 rent skyrocketed to $1800 ($400 was a pet fee for having a pet at my apartment for two weeks).  My rent check was returned to me saying it was a partial payment and a received a summons for an eviction within 5 days.  When I contacted the office saying the $1800 isbeyond my means they advised me to move out quickly to avoid the eviction.  I moved out on June 12 and the final eviction judgement was made on June 17.  What I have since discovered is that I should have responded to the summons, however when the staff assured me that the eviction would be vacated if I left immediately I chose to place all of my goods in storage and move out of the residence.

I take responsibility for my error in judgement to accept the staff’s guidance without seeking legal advice.  My issue is that the staff misled me to think I could resolve this problem by simply moving out.  I know that there has been a push to get all of the tenants up to the full rent which is $1495 for my apartment but to do so by misleading someone that is 59 years old and disabled is reprehensible.

I wrote to Bob Faith the President Greystar the management company for Trinity Exchange Aparments on July 25 and notified them that they have 3 violations in connection to my residency at Trinity Exchange apartments.

  1. Evicting tenants that have already vacated the property.
  2. Evicting a tenant that was not a resident of the property and had not signed a lease.  My mother had planned to move with me but she had a stroke which prevented her from making the move to the second floor apartment.  Although she was a part of the original application she never signed a lease and she never resided at the property they evicted her along with myself.
  3. Increasing the rent retroactively without giving written notice.

I suggested we resolve the matter by having Trinity Exchange expunge the eviction and provide me with a residence at one of the other Greystar properties in Tampa since the eviction has made it impossible for me to rent.  I have been staying with family and friends hoping to have this issue resolved so that I can either rent a property or move into another Greystar community.

After several clarifying emails and my request to respond to what I thought were simple resolution strategies Monica Topicz responded on August 15 stating:

"Velina, I will send you a formal response later this afternoon.  Thank you.
