This is an actual e-mail forwarded to all hands. Please take note of this, and avoid this dealership like the plague. How low can they go??

>I was wondering if you could also get the word out about a scam going on with a local car dealership. This is the situation:
>Tropical Motor Sports on VA beach blvd. is calling sailors, representing that they are the USO, and telling them that they have won a free prize. Then they send a taxi to base to pick them up, bring them to the car dealership and strand them there until they buy a car. The USO has been notified, and has confirmed that they have nothing to do with this dealership.
>If other sailors have gotten calls like this or been to Tropical Motor Sports and had a problem we need to know so we can do something about it. And we need to get the word out to people not to fall for this.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY

I am a proud employee of Tropical Motorsports and former sailor. The incident referred to in the above article does not state the truth only unfounded allegations.

On and about October 2006 a sailor (Jane Doe) was contacted by an employee of Tropical Motorsports welcoming her to the area. It is common that we get referrals from prior satisfied customers, who will give us friends they were in boot camp or stationed aboard a ship with.

Furthermore, the sales person told Jane Doe that Tropical Motorsports salutes and supports the job of the Navy and we support the mission of the USO by offering free gifts to new sailors in the area. The sales person told Jane Doe she would be given a free gift when she decided to come to the dealership.

Jane Doe accepted a ride from a cab company Tropical contacted. The cabdriver picked up Jane Doe from the base and informed her where she was going. When Jane Doe arrived she was greeted by the salesperson and was given a free movie ticket at local theater. Jane Doe inquired about the process of buying a vehicle. However, she did state to the sales person that she could not have a vehicle on base,because she was in phase1 of her school at Oceana.

The salesperson informed Jane Doe on the car buying process and upon Jane Doe request showed her vehicles in her budget. Jane Doe picked a vehicle and pursued getting her own financing through her bank. The sales person came to my boss and told him that Jane Doe could not have a car on base and he did not want her to get in trouble. The boss talked to Jane Doe and she expressed to him how passionate she was about getting the vehicle and wanted to know if something could be worked out for her to purchase the vehicle.

The boss told her that he would hold the vehicle in storage for her and that she could get the vehicle when she reached a appropriate phase in her training to have a car. This was greed upon on both parties with written contracts. Jane Doe was given a ride back to base at no charge and expressed to the cabdriver during her ride back to base how happy she was about getting her own vehicle. Tropicalmotorsports never delivered said vehicle to Jane Doe or recieved any money on the contractual purchase

I can honestly say that Iam proud to work for this company. I have seen and witnessed this company going out of its way to satisfy its customers. Many of our customers are high-ranking servicemembers.

In closing, we work hard everyday to satisfy our customers that purchase a car from us.
