This gym overcharges immensely for low quality training. The coaches are uncertified and untrained.
A meet that has an entry fee of $25 will cost you over $200. The reasoning is that there are coaches fees and filing fees. The only coaches that attend are the owners, and that is even a questionable attendance. One is already being paid as a judge to be there and the other is an inexperienced husband there to basically babysit the kids.
Owner/coach is absent more than she is there and the only people that are actually hands on training are the uncertified parents that have pretty much donated their time to help pay for their child's own tuition.
She readily admits to being the most expensive but can't prove her quality. Other gyms in the area are a fraction of the cost for the same amount of hours with much more focused instruction.
Yet, among this all, she claims to not be about money, it's all about the children. Late fees of $25, up charging everything at least 30%, harassing people that have left the gym for monthly tuition that continued after withdrawal, etc.. Seems like it is all about the $.
I would suggest to anyone looking at this gym to think long and hard about what you actually want, do you want a polished, winning gymnast, or do you want a lackluster child pushed through to the higher levels for the higher price of tuition?

When I first went to Tropical Twisters Gymnastics, Mike and Lisa welcomed us with open arms and we felt very welcomed. As time went on, it became apparent they were all about the money. They seemed to play favorites, actually. The receptionist, Noelle, who is always on her phone, will waive lat fees ONLY for her "friends". When the rules and policies clearly state there will be a late fee after the 10th.
Mike and Lisa leave all the coaching up to the very inexperienced younger coaches. They work with the higher levels, which is fine, but they don't even recognize the younger kids. That's where all their business comes from!! All of their good coaches are gone. They either quit or got fired, for the stupidest reasons. I honestly would go back and try again if they brought their old coaches back. They did so much for the kids, and everyone I saw really seemed to take from their teaching. The coaches now are young, very young. 15-17.
They don't seem to take it very serious, and they play around a lot. One was Kylie I believe- who taught almost every class. My daughter took so much from her. She wants to go back, but her favorite coach isn't there anymore, and I am not willing to pay so much for such low quality as it is now. The other was Kelly- I think, who mainly worked with the older girls, but she was one of the other best coaches there. The gym is also hot at H*LL, and the kids all look dehydrated and beat. Lisa and Mike YELL at their students, making them feel worthless.
Unless they miraculously bring back their old coaches, the owners become nicer and more attentive to things other than money, and the receptionist gets off her d**n phone, I am never going back and would not recommend it to anybody.

Very expensive considering the fact that they have a revolving door with their coaches. The latest one they have is a young, immature girl that doesn't quite know how to coach nor does she care and likes to use her personal cell phone while the practice is in session.
Pushing through the levels is also true.

i have been a parent of tropical twisters since their opening 5 years ago. lisa and mike johnson are the owners and and as far as i can see they show nothing but love and caring for the girls. my daughter adores them and would not go anywhere else. this IS the best gym in this area and I wouldn't recommend anywhere else. Before tropical twisters opened i was at a gym that was abusive and the coaches always yelled at the girls. This just sounds like a disgruntled parent that didn't get their way. their policies are clear and precise and all parents are given a copy to read and sign. we have no issues with their policies, nor their coaching and are VERY HAPPY!
