Troy Bilt MTD Products Inc Warranty refusal Valley City, Ohio
Bought Troy Bilt leaf blower 9/26/09 (still under warranty). It stopped working 3 weeks ago.
Brought it to an authorized Troy Bilt dealer who checked it out and told me the piston was
"scored" which means that I "probably" didn't mix gas/oil properly and, therefore, the
warranty was void.
I explained that I know how to mix the correct amount of oil/gas and I use the same mixed
gas/oil in my other yard devices and never had a problem. He was fixed in his attitude. I then
called a phone number I found on the internet. It turned out to be an employee of MTD Products
Inc., which I learned is the owner of Troy Bilt. I explained the entire problem and this person
said that pistons are "usually" scored when there is an improper mixture of gas/oil. I told him
that I mix 3.2 ounces of oil in a full gallon can of gas every time and I'm the only person in my
house that handles all yard tools. He said he could only go by what the authorized dealer told
him and could not help me any further.
What happened here is that whatever problem one encounters with a Troy Bilt product, they
seem to have a reason to deny the warranty. I wanted to get this information out to find out
how many other people have been denied coverage on their warranty. My next step is to
return this piece of junk back to Lowe's. I know it's a longshot but I have no other way to
resolve this problem. I appreciate reading one of the reviews that listed all the brands of
products manufactured by MTD Products. I copied the list and I will be certain never to buy
any of these products and I will spread the word to my family, friends and anyone else who
asks me about buying yard equipment.
