Troy-bilt, owned By MTD Products Inc. How do you throw away $1,000 in ten minutes? Buy a Troy-bilt Pony lawn tractor Cleveland Ohio
Recently my wife and I bought a Troy-bilt lawn tractor. We thought we were buying a reliable product. After ten minutes of use the hitch pin flew out, the pulley dropped consequently causing the blade level to drop to the ground. This caused the blade to be bent on a small exposed root. In addition, this caused additional damage to the mower.
The bottom line is, Troy-bilt would not warranty the repair work because "we hit something". Of course we hit something, the hitch pin flew out! What makes this story even more fantastic is the fact that the authorized repair dealer we sent the mower to actually told us that the hitch pin often is not installed or installed properly from the factory. That repair was over $200 before we made our first payment for the mower at Lowe's.
Trying to contact Troy-bilt customer support is a joke. You can't get anyone on the phone, only a parts department in Minnesota. We can only get a really smug response by e-mail. We were told by Troy-bilt that it was our responsibility to check all nuts, bolts, bushings, etc. before operation. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that THEIR job to make sure the machine is in working order when shipped? They do not want to assist you and they do not honor their product warranty. We have spread the word that the product is unreliable and the PRODUCT CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS EVEN WORSE! we will never buy a Troy-bilt product again.
