Rest assured, Donald Trump is unlikely to mention this on the campaign trail! So, I guess that leaves me to deliver the bad news! There has been a data breach at the Trump Hotel Collection, similar to the Target and Home Depot breach.

The credit and debit card info of Trump hotel customers have been compromised. Like so many prior data breaches, the business that gets hacked, seems to be the last one to learn about it. Although it was just recently announced, the breach appears to have occurred between May 19, 2014 and June 2, 2015.

It was discovered by the credit and debit card processing banks, who noticed a pattern of fraud and then traced the cards involved, to the Trump Hotel Collection. The breach includes Trump hotels all over the U.S. in big cities like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami & Honolulu.

The computers at the front desk terminals and payment processing terminals inside the Trump hotel’s gift shops and restaurants were infected with malware. The program then gave the Hackers the ability to retrieve the card data.

TIPS:

If you believe you may be effected by this breach, be sure to get a copy of your credit report at all 3 credit bureaus.  Look for any signs of identity theft when viewing your credit reports. Also place a fraud alert.

It’s best to refrain from using your debit card for purchases. Use it only at ATM machines. Debit cards are tied to your checking account and you don’t have the same protections and recourse, as compared to using credit cards.
