Truth Lied about an offer for a free furnace and air conditioner - they scammed me! TORONTO Ontario
I was contacted by someone at Nationwide Home Comfort in January of 2016. I was told that I may qualify for a free furnace and air conditioner if my house was old and met certain criteria.
A man came to my house and looked at my furnace and took measurements of my house. He then called a number on his phone and told the person on the other end the info about my house and my current furnace. He then got a call back and told me "congratulations... you are approved!" He told me that not everyone gets approved.
I was excited. He said that I would be paying a one time installation fee of $80 for the furnace and $80 for the air conditioner, plus I would receive a rebate for around $650, which I would receive in about 30 days.
I ask him how is this possible - it seemed too good to be true. He explained that the way Nationwide would make money is that I would have to pay a maintenance fee of $20.00 per month for the next 10 years. He also said that since I will have a new high efficiency furnace, less energy would be used.
A couple of weeks after all of this, I called the guy who initially came to my house and I asked him to clarify this deal. I repeated the same thing - that I would be paying $20.00 per month for 10 years and that I would only be paying a one time fee of $80.00 for the installation of the furnace and $80.00 for the air conditioner. I still felt it was too good to be true, and I told him that. He assured me that it was true and that I got an amazing deal. I was very happy.
So I ageed. Within one week, 2 men came to install the new units.
I then received monthly bills in the amount of $180.00 per month. I was shocked! When I called them, they told me that I agreed to pay $180.00 for 10 years!!! They just made a killing. If anyone else has had this happen to them, please contact me and share your story. This cannot continue.
The man no longer works for Nationwide, so I cannot speak to him.

I'm in a similar situation. Were you able to get out of the contract?
