Trymedia - TryGames - GameStop - Electronics Boutique - GameSpot. Bought non upgradeable Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from GameSpot via Trymedia. Internet
Bought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from GameStop via Trymedia. Call of Duty4 requires the latest patch in order to connect to the vast majority of servers for multiplayer gameplay (ver 1.7)...Trymedia does not have this patch available making this game unusable. The normally downloaded patches simply don't work and during installation suggest you contact selling vendor (then shutdown). GameStop refused to help and suggested I contact TryMedia. Upon contact (email only) Trymedia stated no action was possible (i had asked for a refund). I will be asking for a chargeback via Visa in the near future.
Regardless of their attempt to separate the purchase, I also hold Gamestop responsible as I was buying the game from their site, not Trymedia
I will not in the future purchase anything from Gamestop. According to wikipedia Electronic Boutique (EB Games) and GameSpot also use trymedia...I also won't purchase anything from them from this point going forward ( as per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TryMedia ).

trymedias website (faq) specifically states that to get updates you must download a new version (which has been updated by their proprietary patching system). however, after this report was filed i was contacted by trymedia email with patch update links that work with their system. So, basically, the above report was in error. please be aware that their website at no point gives this (patch) information.
i will still not be buying future software from them - important processes like patches should not be hidden from those who need them - the user. however, to give them due where it belongs they did send me the pertinent links within 4 days.
