I recently went to Tuffy'59 s for a wheel alignment. while talking to the man behind the desk he told me that if they only had to adjust the "tow", that the alignment would cost around $50.

When they were done with the work they charged me $77.59 & THEN proceeded to explain to me tht they could not adjust the "camber" because the cambers were tack-welded & therefore could not be adjusted. I was told in the beginning that if they did not have to adjust the cambers the price would be around $50 therefore I feel that I was unjustly over-charged!

Needless to say I will never do business with Tuffy's again & I strongly suggest that anyone who does business with this company in the future beware of how much you are charged.

I am sorry if you take offense to my report but YOU were not the one who waited on me when I arrived. The one who I spoke to inside the building was the one who told me that if the camber did not need to be adjusted that I would only be charged around $50. Hr did NOT honor the price he quoted me "in person" in front of my girlfriend. As a matter of fact I was hesitant to have the work done that day because of the financial strain, therefore my girlfriend agreed to pay for 1/2 the cost if I agreed not to wait until the 1st. She witnessed everything the man behind the counter told me. She also heard him say that if the camber did not need adjusting that it would be around $50.

Since the camber was tack-welded it could not be adjusted & if it could not be adjusted he should have stuck with what he said. I also did not receive a print out of what the alignment read before & after the job... which I DID receive from Tires Plus when I had them do an alignment the last time the alignment was done. Therefore, I have no way of knowing how far off my alignment was before you did the job. I have always gotten a print out before... but not from you. You did NOT tell me about the cambers being welded until you were ready to collect the bill. You also did NOT offer to "FIX" the cambers.

Most businesses stand behind the "in person" quote if it differs from the telephone quote. I truly believe that he gave me that particular quote at that time because he did not want to lose the sale. I consider what happened to me to be BAD business.

You may be offended by my report... but I am offended by thedishonesty of your employee. He should have stuck by his "in person" quote.

Sincerely,

Mike

#3REBUTTAL Owner of company

I am the owner of the Tuffy Auto Service Center in Waterloo Iowa. I talked to James on the phone my self and explained we would do a free inspection on his E150 van and we did just that. He had had ball joints replaced by himself and other repairs completed elsewhere and we offered to check it to make sure it was safe and perform an alignment with his approval .

We put the alignment machine on the van and adjusted toe in and found that the caster/camber was slightly out of adjutment, however the customer stated he did not have the funds to do any further repairs at that time and there is an additional charge when the parts that need to move to adjust it were welded in place.

He was quoted up front $69.95 for a 2 wheel alignment which he was charged plus tax & supplies.

He was made aware of the charges and he approved the repair BEFORE it was done. If he felt it was to much he should not have approved the repair at that time.

I take offense to this claim when I provide a free inspection, align the vehicle at the cost estimated, and offer to repair the welded adjusters to make it perfect. Unfortunately we don't and can't work for free.
