I reserved a room at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay online through Expedia. It was guaranteed by my credit card, and I received a confirmation number from the lodge. A week later they called to say they'd overbooked and wouldn't honor my reservation.

My reservation is/was for a Monday night in November when the Packers are playing the Vikings on Monday Night Football.

It is common practice by hotels in Green Bay to inflate prices and require a minimum 2 night stay when the Packers are playing.

I reserved a room through Expedia for 1 night. The hotel is breaching it's contract with me so that it can get 2 nights booking at it's inflated rate from someone else.

As a Platinum level at Marriott, I can tell you that your chances of a positive outcome are greater if this were a chain, than if is this is a single hotel.

Nevertheless, in an article on this very subject, San Francisco travel law expert Al Anolik says: "Hotels have responsibilities to guests holding guaranteed reservations, so when they overbook by accident or design they must take steps to help travelers.

Overbooking can be an issue during conventions, even though hotels use yield-management systems to manage room inventory. It's a balancing act, since hotels want to sell as many rooms as possible without sending guests packing.

And the hotel can't just say sorry, we let you know ahead of time. That's not good enough.

In general, when a hotel turns away a guest with a reservation guaranteed by a credit card, it's obliged to find alternate accommodation at a nearby hoteland pay for the first night there. This is called 'walking'. If the replacement room is more expensive, the hotel should cover the cost difference for all the nights of the reservation."

Good luck!
