Took my car in for work due to "service engine soon" light on. I asked it it was put on the machine to see what the reading for the light was could they fixed any thing wrong. Was told yes and teh $49.95 cost would be used to the cost of the problem. Was asked to leave it there and they would look at it tomorrow. Was called the next day saying it needed a tune-up.

So I authorized the work to be done. He called me later that night asking for me to give him my credit information over the phone. I was driving at that time and didn't understand why I could not give him the information in the moring. Called him back when I pulled over from driving to give him the info. But instead I was told that he already finished his night and I could just give it to him in the moring.

Came back the next day to pick up the car. It cost more than what he told me on the phone and I asked what was done. He told me that a tune up with oil change and change of wires cap and rotor. And that it was under warranty so if any thing was wrong with it bring it back. I asked if every thing was good to go and if there is any thing else was wrong. I was told I was good to go.

A service man there drove the car to my house while I drove my other car. I was packing my second car for a trip and noticed wires/cables hanging out of the lid of my car that was just in there shop. I called tune up plus and they said for me to bring the car in. I told then I could not bring it in and someone should come to my house and look at it.

A techinican came to my house about an hour later and took out the supposed extra wires/cables out of my car and left. I asked if the car was ok and was told again yes good to go.

While on my trip I sold my car. The buyer came back to my house to take the car. He drove it for one day (36 miles) and the light was back on. Took it back to the shop and was told that the technician that preformed the orginail work was fired for doing fautly work. Was told that the oil change was not done. Which was now all over my drive way. The techinician loosened everything to do it but then just left it like that. And now they could not fix the car due to a different code that came up on the machine. I don't even know if the tune up was done. I asked them about the supposed extra cables/wires hanging out of my car and was told that I must of picked them up while driving the car.

I never drove the car after the techinician drove it to my house. But I was told I must have forgot that I did. Was told that they would do a free oil change thou. Why would I take it back there if they could not do it right to being with. I was called by a district manager/customer service rep that he would put in a claim to get my money back.

I did talk to the owner of the store and the manager of the store. The owner has days where he will not admit to being the owner! Was yelled at by the owner and then hung up on. Very Rude!!! Was told by him that he never refunded any ones money and was not going to start now.

I waited for a phone call from the district manager/customer service rep for about two weeks. Left numerous messages and never recieved a phone call back. Tracked down his main office phone number and told his sectertary to have him call me back that day. He never called me.

Called the main office the next day and asked for him to call me again. I told her to have his boss call me. I just wanted to know about my claim. He was supposed to go look at my car but never did. He said he had to see the car first to put in a claim.

The next phone call I get is from the owner of the store. He told me that no one was going to talk to me or give me a copy of the supposed claim that was put in. No one is returning my phone calls now. All I wanted was my money back for service that I can't be sure was done. They will not look at my car and will not supply me with any paper work of what was submitted with my name on it. Please don't go to TUNE-UP PLUS!!!! Or you may be Rip-Off and disrespected. Bad customer service!!!

You sued and lost your case because Tune Up Plus was not to blame when all the information you provided in court proved Tune Up Plus did the work correctly. It was proven when you provided all the parts that were removed by the dealer in Georgia that Tune Up Plus replaced all your vehicle's spark plugs because you provided 6 exact matching spark plugs from Tune Up Plus's inventory. The problem with your vehcile was the ignition coil that failed that was the orginal factory equipment and the dealer in Georgia tried to convince you it had something to do with spark plugs because you had already stopped at one shop on the road that replaced the 3 front spark plugs so when the dealer examined your vehicle they found 3 differnet plugs in the front and 3 different plugs in the back, which were Tune Up Plus plugs just like the 3 plugs from the front the first repair shop replaced and gave you back. Everyone from the manager to the owner tried to explain that to you when you brought in the spark plugs but you wouldn't listen so the judge had to explain it to you and dismissed your case.

EVERYONE thinks a tune up will fix EVERYTHING! a shop can only fix a problem they find, its like building a bridge if your car has miles on it and YOU dont keep up on the maint. then ya other things may be needed! people make mistakes just like when i went out to eat and my steak wasnt cooked correctly, just because the tech messed up you call the whole shop and owner a rip off? wow i bet you NEVER do anything wrong huh?? and if you did should your job be put up here?? GROW UP and deal with the fact that you drive a P.O.S.!

Tune Up Plus Should Be Forced To Close

#10Consumer Comment

Mon, November 03, 2008

I am very interested in speaking to Michele from Virginia Beach. I am a Suffolk resident and am in the process of suing Tune Up Plus in Civil Court.
My wife and I took our van in just to be checked out for a trip to Florida. The manager of the Portsmouth Store recommended many preventive maintenance issue that totaled over $700 - this included a Tune Up. I reluctantly agreed to have the work done because my wife was going to be traveling with my children without me. When I picked the car up, the manager told me "it is running like new. you could drive it to California and back. It didn't even make it through Georgia. The car began sputtering on I-95 and she was forced to find a nearby mechanic. He got her to a nearby Mazda dealer who discovered a shoddy tune up that required replacing the spark plugs, that were supposedly replaced by Tune Up Plus. They also discovered that the coils were bad, which could have happened because of misfiring, but most certainly would have been discovered had the mechanic actually replaced the rear spark plugs. The Mazda dealer indicated that the A/C cover had not been removed, which is required to change the rear plugs. He also discovered that the rear plugs were "old."
My wife called me from Savannah and I immediately called Tune Up Plus. The store manager apologized and directed me to go ahead and get the vehicle fixed and that Tune Up Plus would take care of it whe she returned.
This is where my story get very similar to Michele's. I went to the store and allowed the manager to make copies of the $858 receipt from Mazda. He also saw the remarks on the receipt where the Mazda dealer questioned the previous work done. Robert again apologized and told me he would forward this info to corporate and they would take care of it. I didn't hear anything for two weeks. I called Robert back every day for five days, finally threatening to come into his store and causing problems. I finally got a call from "Steve" who claimed to be the district manager. He said this was the first he'd heard of the problem and he would need to wait until the corporate office opened Monday morning to review the paperwork before deciding how it would be handled. He called me Monday to tell me they weren't going to reimburse me because the bad coils were not a result of their work.
I decided to sue, and when I called "Steve" to get his full name and address for the affidavit, he refused to give it to me. When I asked for his boss' name or the number for the corporate office, he gave me a customer service number. Guess What? That number was also Steve's, who later answered and chuckled as he said, yes, I am also the customer service rep.
I just returned from Small Claim's Court - The "owner" showed up and convinced the judge to move it to Civil Court. But that's okay - I have witnesses who have agreed to appear on my behalf, but I would love another victim of their crappy practices to be there as well.
WHATEVER YOU DO IN HAMPTON ROADS - STAY AWAY FROM TUNE UP PLUS!

Tune up plus

#10Consumer Suggestion

Sat, November 27, 2004

I had a tune up done at the tune up plus in Portsmouth, VA about three months latter my check engine light came on. I than got a reading of the code, which told me multiple misfire, in other words tune. Still under warranty I took the truck back to the tune up plus. They told me get my O2 sensor and EGR fix and they would replace the bad plugs and wires they installed. I got this work done and returned the truck to the turn up plus for the manger to tell he suspects the problem is something else. I had the plugs change by the dealer and now my trucks runs fine I suspect I will see tune up plus in court.

I have geard of many stories of this company
riping off people. I would not take my worst
enemys car there. I once applied for a job thier
and they have some kind of lets make a deal policy
for asking for money. Juggling the price and items
to be performed until a victim agrees. I hear that
often they do not perform the work but charge allot never having even pulled the car in the shop. I recomend reporting them to a TV station.
Good luck sorry to hear of this. Terry
