Turkish Airlines Turkish Airlines Ripped me off El Segundo, California
My family and I were traveling from Tehran to Los Angeles on Turkish
Airline connecting in Istanbul. Once we landed in Istanbul we rushed
through the terminal and the over-crowded security to get to our
far-placed gate which was also changed once. Once there, they were still
boarding people, however, when it was our turn, they said the boarding
was over. After much pleading with them to be allowed into our flight at
no avail, we asked to be put into the next flight. However, they
charged us additional fees. Even then, they said the next available
seats would be two days later. We requested to receive hotel
accommodations for our two nights stay but they did not offer any. We
had to store our luggage that they took out of our connecting flight in
the airport, get our own transportation to the city, and find our own
hotel. We believe Turkish Airline is at fault for us missing our flights
since they scheduled this connection and the gate such that making this
connection for all passengers was virtually impossible. They know the
security waits at Istanbul airport and should schedule accordingly.
There was no special incidences during our check that delayed us any
longer than others. There was no special accommodation for passengers
with short connection times such as us. While waiting in security line,
we even approached the Turkish Airlines personnel multiple times and
pointed out to them that we have a short connection time and all they
said was not to worry and that the gate staff will accommodate us. I
understand that gate changes and scheduling conflicts happen in huge
international airports such as Istanbul. However, I believe the airline
should take responsibility for their scheduling and logistic
misfortunes and accommodate their passengers accordingly. I am a
seasoned traveler both domestic and international and have been through
this situation many times. It's just part of doing business and
customer service. I am requesting that Turkish Airlines refund us the
additional fees charged for airfare since the problem was due to their
connection scheduling/logistics and not accounting for delay through
Istanbul airport security checks. Also compensate us for the expenses
incurred while we were stranded in the airport and the city for two
days. This includes the cost of two nights hotel stay, meals, and
transportation which normally the airline is expected to cover in
situations like this.
