In January 2006 I rented a U-Haul from the location on Main St. in Norristown, PA. The truck's brakes were bad.

Yesterday (9/9/06), my son rented a U-Haul truck in Allentown, PA. I followed him in his car. I noted that he was having trouble stopping at intersections, and he was not driving fast. He said that the brakes were not working well. In addition, the truck was pulling to the right. When we arrived at his house, after we had unloaded the truck, the truck would not start. He contacted U-Haul to have it towed, and they said that he would have to pay for the cost of repairs. He did not damage the vehicle. It is not his fault that the battery died. Eventually, he was able to get it started. However, as he was pulling out of his driveway, the truck left a pool of oil.

My concern is that U-Haul is permitting unsafe equipment on the highways. People could get seriously injured or killed. In addition, if a truck has a mechanical failure, it should not be the customer's responsibility to fix the truck.
