Back in 2003, I shipped an expensive wrist watch to the United Kingdom. I insured it for the full value, had documentation inside the box for customs to verify the purchase price and all that.

I filled out all the necessary paperwork when the U.S.P.S. issued me an 'empty box' at my local post office. There were several office witnesses that could vouch for the fact that the box was indeed not at the proper outbound weight when they gave it back to me with a seam split on the side of it.

I contacted the U.S.P.S., had to resubmit my claim numbers of times, even had a U.S. Senator from Minnesota, Senator Mark Dayton's office, intervene on my behalf, TO NO AVAIL. A Postal Advocate named Shelly Dreyfuss in Washington had assured me they would pay me but then they did not. The Senator's Office didn't do anything else for me either. I assured them that I would pursue this in a Court Of Law and would be very interested in SUING THEM FOR BREACH OF CONTRACT and for FRAUD.

This is not a joke. THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE is the JOKE. They assured me when I shipped that I was fully covered, and then renegged on paying the claim when the box was pilfered and my watch was ripped off.

THIS IS A GOVERNMENT AGENCY, and it is ILLEGITIMATE!!!!!!!!

I HAVE WENT ALREADY EXPERIENCED, WHAT YOU HAVE
GONE THROUGH. IF A COMPANY TAKES MONEY FROM
YOU FOR INSURANCE, YOU SHOULD BE INSURED PERIOD
THAT IS WHY THEY TAKE THE MONEY. (THEY ASK YOU HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO INSURE IT FOR). YOU TELL THEM THEY TAKE THE MONEY. IF THEY HAVE A PROBLEM IT SHOULD BE ADDRESSES RIGHT AWAY.

THEY SHOULD OPEN THE BOX BEFORE HAND. THEY DO NOT THEN WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS IF IT BREAKS ETC.

THEY DO NOT WANT TO PAY PERIOD, THEN THEIR FAMOUS RUN AROUND GAME STARTS. THEY WANT YOU TO GO DOWN THERE PICK UP MORE PAPERS AND REDO THERE FORMS. I HAD WENT THROUGH THAT FOR 3 MONTHS PERIOD. THEY ARE COLLECTING MONEY FOR NOTHING. IT IS ONE HUGH MAIL-FRAUD WITH THERE INSURANCE. THEIR INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER YOU AT ALL. THEY DO NOT ASK UP FRONT WHAT IS IN THERE. WHY ARE YOU INSURING FOR SO MUCH DON'T ASK YOU HOW MUCH YOU PAID FOR IT UNTIL IT GETS BROKE OR IT GETS LOST.THEY ASK IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT BREAKS OR CHEMICALS, THAT IS IT.

JUST LIES AN EXCUSES, ON THE PHONE ETC. THEY TELL YOU IT IS NOT IN THERE DATA BASE. EVEN THOUGH ON THE OTHER END THEY HAD TAKEN PICTURES, AND THEY TELL YOU IT WAS FILED. WHAT WE NEED IS A GOOD CLASS ACTION SUIT ATTORNEY, OR A DISTRICT ATTORNEY THAT NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THEY COLLECT MILLIONS A DAY, ON THERE SHADY INSURANCE SCAM.

AS YOU CAN READ ON THIS FORM. THERE IS NO EXCUSES
FOR THIS TYPE OF ACTIVITY. TAKING MONEY FOR NOTHING AND THEY TALK ABOUT MAIL FRAUD.

FIND ANOTHER SHIPPING COMPANY, FEDX UPS. THEY TAKE CARE CARE OF YOU BETTER. AND THEY WILL PAY WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM. THEIR TRACKING SYSTEM ETC IS MUCH BETTER AND THERE IS PROFESSIONALISM TO FEDX AND UPS.

THE POST OFFICE JUST DONT HANDLE YOUR CLAIMS, BUT THEY DONT MIND TAKING YOUR MONEY. 2 THUMBS DOWN ON THERE ABILITY TO HANDLE THERE INSURANCE CLAIMS.

THEY ARE WAY-OVER-PAID, FOR THE WAY THEY HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS. IF THEY COLLECT MONEY FOR INSURANCE THEY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY IT OUT. IF NOT WHY ARE THEY TAKING OUR MONEY FOR.

they ripped me off. I couldn't afford to be screwed by my own goddamned illegitimate (ILLEGITIMATE) government like this. they sold bogus insurance.

If I understood your complaint correctly, you stated that you placed all of your paperwork and receipts proving the value of your item inside the box before you shipped it. Then you were presented an empty box at the Post Office.

If you read your insurance and customs forms carefully when you mailed the box, you would know that the Postal Service requires valid proof of value when you file an insurance claim. If your proof was in the box, and the box was returned empty, and you had no other receipts or proof of value, the Postal Service cannot validate your claim and therefore cannot pay off on the insurance. Just because you SAY the item was worth a certain amount, does not mean it actually IS worth that amount. If you have to put receipts and proof of value in the box with the item, make copies for your own records and keep them with the insurance receipt and cash receipt just in case you do need to file a claim.

Another fact about filing an insurance claim is that the mailing customer has the responsibility to make sure that they package and tape the box securely enough to withstand normal shipping and handling. If you were skimpy with the tape, and the Postal Service determines that you did not take normal and proper care to secure your package, that will affect your insurance claim also.
