They called and offered me $200 in free gas coupons for a $1.95 mailing charge to try their long distance service. If I cancelled I would owe nothing; if I approved the long distance service I would pay a monthly phone bill. They would not accept my credit card number and wanted only an electronic check for the $1.95.

I never received the packet and never was billed for long distance, nor was my phone service switched. I never received any services or products from them at all. The $1.95 electronic check was never deducted from my account or presented for payment to my bank. I closed my account, and then on January 22, 2004 they presented an electronic check to my bank for payment in the amount of $141.85. My bank declined to pay it and charged me $25 for NSF fees.

The check was presented again on January 29, 2004 and this time my bank did pay it, again charging me $25. I called U-Talk Unlimited and after holding for 27 minutes, spoke with "Blue" #1111 and her supervisor, Megan #7432, who informed me they couldn't contact U-Talk directly nor refund my money. I was faxed a form to mail to a PO Box in Las Vegas (the address above) and told that I would be mailed a refund check in 10-14 business days.

After reading similar accounts on the internet I doubt I will ever see my $191.85 again. I am mailing my refund request return-receipt-requested and I am filing a report with the police here for theft; in addition I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

Ways to get back

#2Consumer Suggestion

If you look at the section here on this web site under wellnet there is another rebuttal from me. It tells you to contact the State Senators of Nevada in the Las Vegas district and to contact the Attorney Generals of the US and Nevada and also the Texas A.G. which since you live in Texas. The way it sounds you were a little more lucky than some of the others who got stiffed for more from some of the other companies that go under this same premise.

Also contact the BBB in Las Vegas and file a complaint. And call the customer service # they give you every few days and tell them to update your file with all the agencies you have contacted. There is not a lot that the C.S. rep can do bcause these scam companies hide their business and the C. S. rep is in Asia. I finally received all 4 of my refunds after a lot of calling and pressure to get my hard earned money back. You can get the Senators email addresses from the gov. web site for the state of Nevada.
