UBS Global Inc & Fidelity International International Lottery Winner - deposit enclosed check and call for instructions on paying applicable taxes Markham Ontario
This Lottery Winner's Notification was an obvious SCAM - from the envelope with no return address to the letter itself which contained multiple spelling and grammar errors all the way to the instructions on depositing the enclosed check in the amount of $4,775 to pay "applicable taxes" in the amount of $2,970. If this were a legitimate lottery, taxes would simply be deducted from the winnings.
Sad to think, in these difficult financial times, that some "low-life sub- humans" are still preying on unsuspecting people.

How it works. You will be instructed to deposit the check from UBS Global Inc. (NOTE this is not the internationally known company UBS Global) into your account and call back the following day for the name of your "tax agent." You will then be instructed to send your "Canadian tax payment," via Western Union to the tax agent, and once payment is received, the remainder of your "winnings" will be sent to you via Fed Ex. You will never receive anything from UBS Global Inc. BUT, in 3 weeks or so, you will receive a notice from your bank that the check from UBS Global Inc., which you deposited, is not legitimate. So, you're out $2,970.
