I'll make my complaint short and simple. NEVER RENT FROM UHAUL ... THEY SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS. We rented a truck from uhaul last year to do a simple move from a one bedroom apartment. The truck we recieved was from arizona NOT even from Manitoba and it was in NO condition to be driven on the road, I asked the clerk if it was even safe to drive and he just grunted, handed me the keys and walked away.

When i looked around all the trucks are registered with Arizona plates...Im assuming they register and insure them from Arizona to bypass safety laws and probably even insurance laws here in canada. However, I was desperate and needed a truck to do the move with. I took the truck and had nothing but hassles with it swerving all over the road because the steering wheel was so loose. I had to crank the wheel hard to the right or left to even make the wheels turn.

Now im no mechanic but thats not safe. The truck had absolutely no power i had to stomp on the gas pedal to get the truck moving. (oh and by the way i know its no sports car but it was not up to standard with any other truck ive rented of the same size) The truck could barely start and those are just the things that stood out to me. I completed the move. Replaced the fuel to the 1/8 tank they gave it to me with. Returned the truck a half day early to them.

When i looked at my mastercard bill Uhaul had charged me a fuel charge for not replacing the fuel??? I told them that i had replaced the fuel and had a receipt for the gas. The clerk was extremely rude and just plain didnt care. They would not refund the money. She was a stone cold lady (probably from years of complaints and angry customers). I decided not even to get any more angry but take it as a expensive lesson.

I will never Rent from Uhaul again. I plain hope to see them go out of business. Any person who asks me what rental company to rent a truck from....go to enterprise, budget any other company where they have good trucks and friendly staff. It'll cost you a little more but for the long run you'll be happy you didnt rent from Uhaul.

Albert, U-Haul plates all of their vehicles in Arizona because of lower rates and nothing more. Just like a semi truck, they all carry cab cards and are registered in every province and every state. All commercial vehicles are required to have a government regulated safety inspection to be done once a year. U-Haul is no exception. These are done, usually at a dealership. Same place you get your car fixed.

Check to make sure all markings and readings match your contract BEFORE you leave the lot. This is the same for ANY rental item, be it a chain saw, car, truck or movie. If you have a problem report it immediately, they cannot fix what they do not know about.
As for the lady, you dealt with. Perhaps you should direct you fury to someone who can actually help you. Cashiers DO NOT refund money to customers. Again, no different from Cdn Tire, Wal-mart, etc. Speak to her manager. Don't discuss it with her, just phone back and ask to speak with the manager.
