Uncle Mike's Rental Purchase bad business people, broke contract that was signed ripoff Port Lavaca Texas
My refrigerator went out so I needed to get another one before my food went bad. So I went to Uncle Mikes Rental Purchase in Port Lavaca, TX. My husband and I found a fridge signed a contract and payed our first payment. We were told that the fridge would be deleivered by 7:00pm that evening.
We went home and the time passed. My husbands phone rang and it was Uncle Mike's asking how long we would have the fridge because another couple wanted to buy it. We told that we would have it for awhile or until it was payed off and the lady said ok.
8:00pm came around and we had no fridge. We tried to contact the company but could not get a hold of anyone. So our food ruined and had to be thrown out. The next my husband contacted the company and they said over the phone that we were not approved and that is why the fridge was not delivered.
My husband went into the business and confronted them and said how were we not approved when you dont do credit check we have already signed a contract and paid our first payment. The manager stated that it was not that we were not approved it was that they had another couple who wanted to buy it.
So due to there contract breaking and bad business all of our food went bad and we had no fridge. For anyone out there I would suggest taking your business else where.

WHY DID YOU NOT SEEK AN ATTORNEY? THERE ARE LAWS CONCERNING BREACH OF CONTRACT IN THE TEXAS ADMINISTRATIVE CODE THAT PROTECTS YOU. THERE IS ALSO THE OFFICE OF THE CONSUMER CREDIT COMMISSION WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN YOU CASE AND THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE AS WELL.
IN TODAYS WORLD, THERE ARE MANY BUSINESSES THAT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR RIGHTS.........

Wow, congratulations! I have read Ashley's report, and in and of itself, didn't move me to do much. VERY shady on the part of the company, however, stuff happens. Then, I read the managers (or whomever that is) response. How RUDE and UNCARING and UNPROFESSIONAL could you possibly be?!? It could not be any more obvious that you don't have the slightest bit of concern for your customers if you flew it on a banner behind a plane. You START OFF your rebuttal with "First, we have the right to refuse service to anyone"? Are you serious? My God. It is also glaringly obvious that your "policy" of TAKING PEOPLE'S MONEY before any goods or services are rendered is unethical. I'm not sure where your from, but where I'm from, taking peoples money without delivering the item is called STEALING. That would mean that you, your company, and affiliates, would otherwise be known as THIEVES. Your company DID NOT explain this policy to this girl or there would have been no miscommunication. You do not touch on the fact that (and I'm sure it's no coincidence) the workers from this store never called this poor girl to inform her that she had been "disapproved." How long would she have been waiting for her new fridge had she not contacted you first? She and her family LOST all their food due to YOUR COMPANY and its shady business practices, there is no two ways about that, it is all but fact. But the best part- this rediculous lady hawks her advertisements on her signoff! Brilliant!

In reguards to the previous statement made by "Ashley"...
First of all, Uncle Mikes has the right to refuse service to anyone.
Second of all, Uncle Mike's does not do a credit check, however, Uncle Mike's does approve and dissaprove customers based on the information given in the application. And due to Privacy Laws, Uncle Mike's cannot disclose any information revealed during an application review.
Based on whatever information that was revealed during that process, Ashley was dissapproved and recieved a full refund in place of the down payment she gave.
When a customer comes into a store and fills out an application they want to know if they are approved as soon as possible. For the customers convenience, there are steps in approving the application. If all of the information is filled out correctly on the application, Uncle Mike's will start the contract paperwork, at which time a down payment is required. The customer is made aware that they are approved pending application information. This means that when Uncle Mikes calls the references and employment information, if everything "checks out" then the customer remains approved. If everything does not "check out", then the customer is called and made aware of their contract termination and that a full refund will arrive in the mail in 5-10 work days. This is generally how all rent-to-own stores work.
In order to keep prices low and fine quality furniture in the store, Uncle mike's Rent To Own does not rent to everyone. Just like all other rent-to-own stores, we do disapprove some applicants. This is how the rent-to-own business works.
Uncle Mike's does however cater to their customers that are approved and make payments on time. Our specialty is customer care and service.
