Union Bank Of California Excessive fees for business banking customers Manhattan Beach California
Union Bank of California processes merchant deposits the next business day instead of the same business day like other banks. What this means is that they debit your account before they credit your account. The debits hit at 11:00 PM and the deposits hit after midnight. So, even though you may have a positive balance every day, your overnight balance will show negative and they charge you a 34.00 fee per transaction that hits over night. When you call them, they don't hear what you're saying. They don't understand this and they think you the moron. They say things like, "well you are writing checks for more than you have". No, I'm not! I have my visa/mastercard sales hitting and I know they will hit, but you don't process them when you are supposed to! I feel like I'm being robbed.

But you ARE writing checks for more than the available balance. This bank, like most, process debits before credits. It isn't a secret, it's in their disclosure statement. If you write checks before funds are available, it's going to overdraw you. It'll happen at just about every commercial bank on the planet.
No robbery here, just less than stellar account management. Delay writing checks by a single day, and you should get out of this mess.
