I received a letter from United Access Financial Inc. June 16, dated June 12, stating I had won $250,000 us dollars, a winner of the shoppers sweepstakes held on May 5, 2008 in the 2nd category, with ticket serial no 387450146, and lucky winning no 38-44-66-79-91.

The letter goes on to say we have made many unsuccessful attempts to contact you regarding this winning. That there are 20 other winners. I also received a check for $4,890.00.

The purpose of this check is for the payment of applicable Government Taxes on my big winning, The tax amount is $2985.00 to be paid by either monyegram or western union.

Then the letter goes on to say not to cash the check until I call this Lewis McGregor, within 5 business days. The letter was signed by a Mary Williams (Promotion Manager).

The number is 905-598-2417, I called the number and spoke with Lewis McGregor(supposedly) and asked where to send the tax money, and he rudely said deposit your check then call me back for further instructions.

I talked to my banks manager and she informed me that this is a scam that she had seen this type of scam before. I just want people to be informed of this scam, so they don't get their hopes up like I did. I hope they get this nut!

I find it hard to believe that there is anyone in the US who has actually fallen for this OLD scam. Geeezzzzz. Take a few minutes and read the hundreds upon hundreds of reports on this scam. And - NO - these crooks will NOT be caught, as the Canadian law enforcement has better things to do than look for a bunch of slippery crooks who take money from foolish, greedy citizens of the USA. By the way - exactly WHEN did you enter this sweepstakes ??? Don't you know that winnings of this size are NEVER sent in the mail ???? WISE UP !!!! You are EXACTLY the kind of person scammers prey upon.
