Do NOT work for United American!

I'm young, in college, and very motivated. I posted my resume on a job web site and was contacted by UA. I should have been thrown off by the fact that the manager that hired never really asked me questions, but just started by telling me how rich he got. Since my position as a manager in retail was running me into the ground with the hours I had to work, I agreed to take the job. I was still finishing up college, but was ready to get into a "career."

The manager had me fill out the temp licensing paperwork, and I was told he would submit and and handle the fee. I very stupidly paid for $100 dollars for my online training, $80 for my exam, and $75 for my permanent license. The office is 2 hours away, but the manager SWORE he would be here certain days. I worked very hard setting up appointments for him to take me out on and "teach me", and he canceled on me more than a couple of times. He gave me VERY little product training, basically only enough to give a quote and fill out the application. When he was telling me about one policy, he actually studdered and couldn't really explain it so he generalized.

So, he finally gets here and we go out on my first appointment - this was off a lead I got and that I had done all the work on the get the appointment. We sold the policy, and he said, "We're gonna split the commission, okay?" My initial reaction was "WTF, you're my manager, its your job to teach me and you want to split the earnings from a customer that I found!" I was convinced that this was just how the business worked (how stupid of me).

His license number was put on the application. He swore to me that he had submitted the forms for my license, and that it was "ok" to be out working in insurance since we had already submitted the forms to the government. (I later learned that this was a BIG NO NO). I later found out that the temp license NEVER went through.

He called me later that night and said, "Oh, a family medical situation has come up, you won't get the commission next week. uhhh. I'll give you some leads for it." Being good natured, I empathized with the medical situation, but had to stand up for myself be telling him that it was fine, I didn't want leads, I wanted my money, and would be understanding as long as I got it soon. He agreed, and the conversation ended.

Come to find out, he moved out of state without even telling me. There was NEVER a family medical situation. Since his number and name was on the app, he must have gotten the commission. I was given a new manager, and tried to resolve it through the new manager. I was eventually given less than even my 50% split of the commission.

Stay away from this company.

Ok you say that you worked for the company. I started working for UA on December 20, 2007. I met with the director of Agencies and had a group interview. There were only three people there for the interview. The branch manager was also at the interview. Yes this is how they set up interviews, I found this out once I asked my branch manager. As soon as they were done with the presentation we broke off into pairs. One person had left and this seemed like a true company. I was paired with my Branch manager out of Evansville, IN.

He explained everything to me, all my duties and responsibility's. I signed up for my temp license and was on my way. My branch manager made me a folder with every single bit of information on the products that i needed to know. He also handed me my manuals and explained things in detail over lunch, which he bought. After he answered all my questions we did a walk n talk around the area to get my name out. My branch manager paid for all my advertising that was posted. The only thing I have had to pay for since I started working was my gas to meet my branch manager at a restaurant for lunch and discuss what was going to happen in the appointment that I set up my self. My branch manager has sent me leads upon leads and has had been to every meeting that we have set up to discuss whats going to be happening for the week.

When it comes to the training the online site, the training program was completely free. The license is going to be $360 because that is how much the license costs in Illinois. Yes that seems to be a lot but the temp license is for 90 days and I already have sales coming in left and right. This company is completely legitimate. if people would do their research correctly they would find that out for themselves. I had this site forwarded to me by a lot of people who were concerned in my choice for a career opportunity.

The products are legitimate too. If people would read their policies they would find them out for themselves. I know that I have only worked for the company for a very short time but I love my "JOB". A lot of you that post on here seem to be disgruntled employees that couldn't do what was asked of them. This is the easiest thing I have ever done, if you can't believe in what you are selling then why be in sales? I took up this position to help people get insurance cause i know how hard it is to not have insurance. Do i have a policy thru UA? No not yet, but will i? yes i will. Everyone needs insurance whether it is a basic plan or a major medical.

We have over 60 products and are rated A+ superior for years. We are the leading supplier for Medicare Supplement Policies. The fact is we are a company that when we say were going to do something we do it. So quit hatin.
