At first the reason why United Concordia said my bill wasn't paid was because I had to show proof that the dental coverage I had from my previous employer was discontinued. So I faxed United Concordia proof of discontinued coverage. After I faxed the form, two months went by and my dental bill was still unpaid.

I sent an email to United Concordia stating what I sent them. United Concordia responded that they paid a portion of my bill and the reason why the whole bill wasn't covered was due to a certain sealant material that the provider used. UC said that they don't cover that certain type of sealant. It sounded very muddy to me because to my understanding, the original reason my bill wasn't paid was because they thought I had a dual insurance.

United Concordia keeps trying to find lame reasons not pay my bill. It seems like they take pride in targeting active duty soldiers because we don't have time to fight these charges and they know that most soldiers will just settle to pay the bill and avoid a deliquincy on their credit report and a meeting with their First Sergeant. And now that UC is no longer contracted with the Army, it is my belief that they are trying to avoid as many outstanding payments as possible. United Concordia is so despicable.

I am responding to the things you placed in your first post..no where in that post did you say it was your child...you kept saying active duty sodiers so the only conclusion would be these statements are about you as the soldier..so again my suggestion... would be to make sure you are reading your benefits correctly....If nothing was paid as you said and it is supposed to be covered according to the benefits, it will be paid....but you need to contact UCCI-Tricare directly....

Tricare Rebuttal

You appear to be confused of what this whole topic is about. I know that Tricare dental is for family members and not active duty. This is not about me. This bill is concerning one visit that my child attended, however it's my bill. This is not concerning me as an active duty member complaining of dental work that I got done. I hope you are now clear on that. I've be in the military long enough to know which dental program covers the family and which covers active duty.

I'm talking about dental care my child received. Concerning the pay topic, first UC told me my bill wasn't paid because of the unsurity of me possibly having a dual insurance. I faxed UC proof of my Certificate of Credible Coverage with the end date from 2 years ago. I don't know why that was a factor due to the time frame.  Once that was received, my bill still wasn't paid. I emailed them again in reference to my bill.

UC responded saying a payment was issued for the services my child received, however, a small balanced remained and I asked UC for the bill breakdown. The breakdown bill fom UC showed that I owed MORE than the actual bill I was being charged for from the dental clinic. This is when it becomes despicable. I got two conflicting things from UC. One saying they paid a portion of my bill leaving me with a small balance and then a week later the bill break down they showed me showed that I owed an excessive amout of money and the portion that I owed was way more than the original balance stated on my dental bill! And they didn't make a payment like they originally said they did either.

I still have an outstanding balance. The bill from the dental clinic still shows a outstanding balance of the original amount of what I owe. UC didn't make a payment but they emailed me that they did. And now they are telling me I owe more than what's on the dental bill in front of me. This situation went from verification of a dual insurance as to why my bill isn't getting paid to a crazy bill breakdown from UC that's different from the bill I actually have and they didn't make a payment on anything! Therefore, I know what my benefits and coverage are as an active duty soldier.

I hope you take the time and re-read my reasons as to why this situation has become dispicable and frustrating. When does UC take responsibility for their mistakes with soldiers and families who are having trouble with outragious dental bills and quit blaming the soldier. I find that highly disrespectful, unprofessional, and untruthful on UC's part. UC makes many mistakes and as long as I have a voice, I will fight for what's right for soldiers and families who have been where I am now with no resolution (and there are many). I will never ever take responsibility for their (UC) mistakes.

While I understand your frustration, there is some dicrepency in your claim. First Tricare dental was for family members not active duty. Active duty is handled by a different department with in UCCI. Second if you are active duty you must get approval first before any services are done by a dental office. Called a control #. So you are informed before services are done if they will be covered. Third in respect to the service you had done, sealants are only covered on dependant children usually..up to age 16 on 99% of policies. If you are referring to a resin (white) filling, usually if its a Molar (chewing) tooth some policies don't cover it, so that's when you would READ your benefits. Finally as far as not wanting to pay claims because of the end of the contract with the military families, this is false. UCCI is still under contract to process and PAY claims that adhere to the members benefits. Bottom line it is the members responsibility to know what benefits they are paying for. Using the excuse that you are active duty so that's why you don't know your benefits is not only (to use your word) despicable, but also disrespectful to those soldiers and families who take responsibility for their own mistakes.
