Complaint Review: United Food And Commerical Workers Local 5 (formerly Local 1179)

We worked for Union 1179 (now local 5) and we were coerced into paying monthly payments which management referred to as Union dues. We didn't have a contract or union representation while employed at the Union as office clerks. Management threatened to terminate our employment if we didn't pay our monthly payments. When we complained to management and requested union representation the Union representatives hired to represent the members didn't want to represent the office clerks because they were afraid that management would retaliate against them. Management treated us unfairly and the working conditions were horrible. When we complained to the president of the union she would intimidate us by holding a meeting with us and the labor attorney. We've recently contacted the union office and requested copies of monies paid and any information that states we were under a contract. We received a letter from their attorney declining our request. Why would they decline our request? Management and top officials at UFCW Local 5 are a bunch of hypocrites. They are out at non-union stores and Wal-Mart claiming to be fighting for employee's labor rights but they treat their office employees horrible. We are asking for what's right fully ours. The working conditions at Local 1179 (now Local 5) were the most horrible conditions we've ever worked under. We are coming together as one to get this out to the public. Please help us get our money back.

Local 1179 (now 5) needs to be held accountable for their actions and we hope someone can help us.
