Our story is very typical of many other postings.  Dan Golka of United Home Improvement Centers (now located at a new Irvine address) came to our house, took measurements, talked a good talk, and gave us a competitive bid.  He seemed to really know the products, options and the business.  A good salesman for sure.  He took a 50% deposit (which we now discover is illegal).  The kicker is we never saw him again.  The Tustin address listed on our contract has been vacated (according to the property manager, he was evicted), repeated phone calls and emails go nowhere.  Now that Dan Golka has rented an real office or a virtual office at an Irvine executive suite (his contractors license record with the state has been updated), we could try small claims but it sounds like others have tried that route and received judgments but don't seem to be able collect their money.  The only other way to get our money back seems to be going after the contractors insurance bond.  We found details on how to do this and who to contact at: http://www.bit.ly/i2fdrA Hard to believe this guy can still keep going at this and that the state of California is doing nothing to stop him after so many filed complaints and violations.
