After having come up with an invention idea I started looking for a way to market, and put a patent on it, so that nobody could steal my idea. Not having ever tried to patent an invention before I started looking on the internet for a resource of some kind to help me out with this process. While I was surfing I came across a company called United Patent Resources Ltd., and after reading the purpose of the co. I was very impressed with what I was reading on there website.

Requested for more information on the company, and eventually a man named George Chandler who was a consultant for the company called me. Have to admit I was very impressed with what he said the company could do for me if I rendered there services. Claiming there patent attorney named Morgan A. Freedman was the best in the business, and had worked with many professional football teams.

George Chandler claimed for a one time up front fee of $795.00 they would do an official patent search, market analysis, a legal recommedation for patentability, etc. until it was pending a patent pending at the USTPO. He said he would keep me up to date on the process every step of the way until finally my invention woul be patent pending at the USTPO. where at that point the patent attorney would then take over, and market it to major companys for me.

He would then market it for two full years at the these annual trade shows, and show the invention off to companys in an attempt to lease the invention. Which they said showed amazing potential.upon leasing the invention they said for helping me out George, and the attorney Morgan A. Freedman would recieve 30% of my commission for the next 15 to twenty years. Which I thought was a small price to pay to have someone to do all this wonderful work for me.

Relayed this back to my wife, and we deided to take out a loan to cover the expense since we are low income. We both agreed it would be a worthwile venture, and well worth the risk, honestly it never occued to me that they would be fraudulent, even Checked them out on the BBB. They had a 3 year no complaint history, which I have just most recently found out they have been in business for 10 years, and had previously worked under or with PTI Of America.

PTI Of America of Garden City, NY has a file here on rip off report, and they of couse have been shut down UPR is also Associated with a company under the name NPA, based out of Atlanta, Georgia my guess is they are either shut down or they should be. United Patent Resources Ltd. took my money, and all I ever recieved in return was a stupid for my information only portfolio, an online Google.co patent search, and a fake promise that my inention was patent pending at the USTPO which I can assure it is not.

I will give you any information you need to make sure this company never gets the chance to do this to another person. Please help me to shut them down, and give back the money that I'm sure they have stolen from a countless amount of inventors just trying to better there life. The only thing I can even be thankful for is that I found them be a scam before I went an invested more money.

I Have a family of three, I personally have multiple seizures day an night, so I can't work and my wife barely pulls in $200 every other week that loan for $795.00 has really hit us hard!

To clarify the facts:

The name for Universal Licensing's attorney is Michael Freedman, not Morgan Freedman, and he is a licensing attorney, not a patent attorney. For an attorney to practice patent law, he or she has to be registered to do so. UPR uses registered patent attorneys for all legal patent work and refers our clients to an experienced LICENSING attorney for marketing and licensing services.

As for the complaint history, the BBB keeps records for up to 3 years on the companies they list on their site. Just because they keep records for 3 years does not mean we have been in business for that long. As a matter of fact, the listing on the BBB states when our business started, and, at the time of Yuri's complaint, we had only been in business for about 1 year. This is a very good example of how people can misinterpret what they read. The disclosure on our contract uses the language in the previous 10 years because that is how the required disclosure is worded by the FTC. This does not mean that we have been in business for 10 years. Furthermore, it also explains that some of our employees had worked previously with other companies, NOT that UPR was previously another company. Actually, this is one of the main reasons this company was started, because the owner saw a problem with how some other companies were operating, by not fulfilling their contracts and by not even attempting to help clients sell or license their patents. This is why UPR has partnered with Universal Licensing, an experienced licensing company with an 8+ year record to prove it.

It is really important that once you have a patent you be able to do something with it. Any time you put a product on the market it is a risk. It's an even bigger risk to put a product on the market without first having proper legal protection in place. This is how our program is different from that of most companies' programs. We are a company who assists inventors in securing legal protection. To date we have obtained patent or patent pending status for ALL of our clients who contract for these services. Universal Licensing is a separate company who assists in marketing and licensing. UPR clients have the opportunity to work with UL, not the obligation. To read what our clients have to say about their experiences with our company, please check our company blog. A link to the blog can be found on our homepage.

All of our patent searches are done through a registered patent attorney, not a google search. The benefit of having a professional do the search is that the professional knows where to look, which sub categories to search in, and what is truly relevant to each case.

Yuri hired our company in August of 2007 and received all the work and materials for which he contracted in October of 2007. We were not aware that he was unsatisfied until his post on ROR turned up 3 months later in January of 2008. As for the retraction and refund statements given by Yuri, he was simply asked to correct his statements once the facts were explained to him. Apparently he wrote a retraction on 2-11, at 9:31 A.M., and rescinded his retraction 45 minutes later, at 10:15 A.M. Then he continued to follow information that has nothing to do with us. Yuri, in fact, was given a full refund. It was issued and mailed out on February 12th.

Respectfully submitted,

I was talking to George Chandler and had sent in an idea I had and he also gave me a good spill that I was interested in and had the same opinion you had about the entire deal. So I just thought I would try some last research before sending out my money and found your complaint! God is good! Thanks so much for sharing this with others. I was also considering getting a loan to make this happen thanks again!

Have researched this company further, and I have found UPR to be a very good company with a 3 year no complaint record. Would at this time like to retract all my previous statements in regards to this company, and sincerely apologize for any harm it may have caused.

When you were doing your google search, did you ever think the jsut google the us Patent office? the sight is UsPTO.gov. Go there. There is a lot of usefull info there and you can do a search and apply for a pattent yourself I think. I think all the main government agencies have a web sight and you can find a lot of stuff on there and do it yourself. THAT should be the first place you start. ALL those companies that promise to do all the work are rip offs. Good luck
