Complaint Review: United States Navy

United States Navy They Lied, misrepresented facts, committed fraudulent business practices Washington D.C. Maryland

  • Reported By:

I went to a Navy Recruiter in 1990. I was told by him that I was too old to be a Naval Officer. I was 32 at the time but I have seen Naval Requirements for Cryptologists which state that you can enter up to age 35.

I was promised a job in Data Processing. I already had a Bachelor's Degree in Physics and additional expensive training in computer programming.

They gave me a piece of paper in downtown Oklahoma City which promised me the DT rate which is in Data Processing, in Computers. They showed me a nice glossy brochure which described all about the great job in computers.

Once in San Diego, I found out I had been tricked into signing a false contract which gave me another rate as a Dental Technician. Another recruit told me, "I got screwed on my job too."

I got upset about it because I don't like to be lied to.

They discharged me and claimed I had a personality disorder because I was upset about this. They made remarks like, "THEY THINK THE LAW WILL HELP THEM."

After I got home to Oklahoma City, they called me and said, "DO YOU THINK IT'S OVER?"

That was 16 years ago and I've had my life ruined because I can not trust the Government anymore. I've had it with them. I've complained for years and nothing happens.

It's caused me so much pain and suffering that I don't know how to measure the bad effects that it has had and what it has caused. It's not fair to have a Government like that.

Well... you could say... I too got screwed on MY job....

Know what I did about it... did i moan and whine and complain and say my recruiters were all a bunch of lying fa**ots... NO... what I did was I chose another rate that also interested me... they were not taking any female corpsmen so instead of fixing people I fix cars... hey fine with me??? I picked the CM rate and I ran with it, and despite the bozoes around me who invariably say I should not be a CM, I do just fine with it.

People these days want it their way well I have news for you this is the military it is not Burger King!!!!!! You go work at Burger King hun and let the rest of us make a living. Very Respectfully, a CM2 with three years in!!!

DP is data processing DT is dental tech

#11Consumer Suggestion

That's funny the navy has DP for data processing and DS for data systems. Pretty sure DT is dental tech. Sounds like if that was what was on the contract and you got what you signed up for.

You should have researched the ratings and the job descriptions better. Been a while since I have been in but cryptologist is an enlisted rating right?? Not an officer.

Closure

#11Author of original report

Wed, December 21, 2005

I would like to Close this Report with a Phrase that I used back in Oklahoma City this last summer. I didn't exactly say it without passion. It was extremely passionate. The phrase was this:

"Her name is Oracle and She's not mine!"

Tonight while people were singing Christmas Carols to me, I thought of the following story that I read long ago.

This is used from the Federation of Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut website. I think it is fair use to reproduce this story here.

Rosh Hashana By Rabbi Mark Diamond

Rabbi Israel Meir Kagen was one of the giants of nineteenth century Jewish life. Popularly known as the Hafetz Hayim, he was renowned for his saintly character. On one occasion, a student of the Hafetz Hayim was arrested on a false accusation. The defense attorney thought that it would help his client if the great rabbi would testify on his behalf. Before calling him to the stand, the attorney told the judge a few things about the rabbi. "Do you know what the Jews say about him, Your Honor? That one day he came home and found a thief ransacking his house. When the thief saw the rabbi, he ran to the street, clutching some money and valuable items. But the rabbi ran after him, shouting: 'I declare all of my property hefker, ownerless,' in order that the thief would not be guilty of stealing anything."

Likewise, this is how I'm closing this emotionally incorrect outburst that I've been having. I am declaring this DP rate of mine ownerless therefore, the people (whether they are still in the Navy or not) are NOT GUILTY.

Now, I'm going to try very hard not to come back to this site again. I apologize if someone had something to say, but I can't afford to read your remarks because I don't want to make any more slips like this on the Internet Again.

Happy Holidays,

Joseph

You Volunteered To SERVE Your Country

#11UPDATE Employee

Tue, December 20, 2005

Whether you clean teeth, operate computers, or pick up the trash, you still get paid the same amount. It is about serving your country. Not your country serving you! A man of real character in your shoes would have realized the mistake and served the full enlistment doing the best job possible. All for the defense of the country and the greater good. Respectfully, a Navy Senior Chief w/20 years active duty service.

There was the AFQT. I was (Category I), highest quality.

I have an IQ of 144 according to a test I recently took and I can prove it if you need me to.

You are right, I should have read the contract but it would have been better to take a Fraud Lawyer with me to the Recruiter Station.

Thanks.

Bye.

Oh, and by the way, I don't want to work for Lockheed Martin anymore and I don't appreciate being sent email that will not deliver. Oh, and Juniper Networks can stop sending me emails because I'm not qualified to work for you, I can't stay in those stupid Government jobs long enough to get the 5 years experience.

Let's just say I'm PSYCHO and call it quits or else you can call the Priest and I'll repent for being so mean at the Government.

What do you want from me. I don't care anymore. I WANT HAWAII!

I'm outta here baby.

If you actually READ your contract..

#11Consumer Comment

before you signed it that day, you would have read that you were signed up for the computer job OR the needs of the Navy. Any branch of the military basically has the same wording in their contracts. Another thing to think about-- did your GT score rank you high enough to get into the programming school?? That may have been a factor, also.

Besides, if you wanted to learn PROGRAMMING, why did you enlist for a job in Data Processing??? Data Processing has NOTHING to do with programming, and is just a fancy name for OFFICE PERSON WHO CAN TYPE, which means you joined the Navy to be a clerk, again, not learning anything about the PROGRAMMING that you wanted to learn.

Once you found out that your job had changed in San Diego, why didn't you go to your chain of command and ask to be released?? Or the chaplain?? You can always request release during basic training, and it would be an entry level general discharge for being "unable to adapt" or some screwy language like that, but it wouldn't have messed up your life.

Possible Neglected Facts

I tried to re-read this Report but I can not seem to find it all.

Some appears to be missing. I don't know if something is wrong with the browser I'm using. It's a Library Browser in San Jose. Computer #JK4IC36 at the King Library Downtown.

I am only writing to be sure that everyone understands that this was an Unusual "RipOff".

I have a friend who was in the Navy and they did not lie to him about his job.

I only have myself and one other recruit to actually report about here.

There was one friend who was complaining that the Army did the same thing to him. He was quite upset about it. I've lost touch with him after his Grandmother died.

Point being, I'm not claiming the entire Military is untrustworthy, just a few.

By the way, I got an email from Lockheed Martin and it turned out to be a undeliverable email address. Guess maybe I'd better start looking for some other type of work. Bye

Thanks,

Merry Christmas

That's a real shame not respecting the hard work and dedication of an active duty serviceman, willing to spend his life under the covert wing.
Very sorry to hear of those circumstances you endured.

Reminder of how I struggled to find a job, facing enlistment opportunity long before my age became an expiration date. Always found a civilian job during the time of that decision process. The recruiters wanted me then, but not anymore.

Its a hard road to victory when you don't have the solid backing of the FED GOV. network.
I can only imagine what that must be like...

I have worked with computer programmers and the last thing you want to do is change their current program without respectful notice of intent.

I can respect your comments about God and how you feel. It is true that this life is not a mere coincidence. Don't be afraid to trust your instincts. You will prevail in what you seek. The higher power will listen to you, and has a different plan for you.

Move on, and try to concentrate on your educated gifts that you worked so hard to achieve. Find happiness in your awareness to adapt, improvise, overcome, and prevail.

You're not alone with the feeling of being left behind in all the hard work and commitment as seem to end. There is always a new beginning. Listen to the inner voice of reason.

I don't pretend to know your story. It just sounds like you were left with alot of unanswered questions.

Hope this finds you in good spirits,

FINAL UPDATE

#11Author of original report

Thu, September 08, 2005

The Point is that I asked GOD to make it rain if GOD wanted me to go to London.
It started sprinkling within 15 seconds.
I then said, "Make it Rain like Crazy."
We got 5.4 inches in a few days.
I think GOD has made a POINT HERE!
I can't ignore that.
I can't allow the past to keep me from GOD any longer.
I have to forget about the past and GO ON WITH MY LIFE.
This ripoff report is only good if it reveals what GOD WANTS.
Nothing else really matters.
I don't have anymore time to squabble with people.
I sold my house to get away from people who bothered me.
I tried to make it in California. It doesn't work.
I tried Phoenix. It won't work.
I tried Oklahoma City again. It didn't work.
NOW I WANT GOD TO TRY IT GOD'S WAY!
GOD SAID LONDON and I can't ignore it.
GOD SAID IT. Who else can make it Rain?
No, the Air Force didn't seed the clouds that day.
It was GOD.
GOD IS ALL I'VE GOT.
I can't let anything get between me and GOD.
So Jesus says forgive and GOD will forgive me.
Ok: So I'm saying I'm not going to do anything about this.
It happened. I'm not a liar, but I'm not going to do anything.
Not because I'm afraid of the Government but because I
can't let this get between me and what GOD WANTS.
I'd be a FOOL not to believe what happened here.
GOD is the only ONE who could have known it would rain like that.
NOBODY ELSE COULD DO THAT!
