University of Pheonix has got to get their stuff together. Before enrolling in their on line program, I asked all the normal questions. I asked specificly about their financial aid because I can not afford to pay for college on my own. I have also been eligible for financial aid in the past from my other college. Because of the way I filed my taxes which was head of house hold and I am married, I was picked to verify my income and the way that I filed, after enrolling in the school. I was told that it wasn't a problem I just had to prove that my husband and I were living apart at that time that I filed head of house hold on my taxes and I did that. But for some reason that wasn't good enough. I went as far to get a notarized letter stating we were. They kept on asking me for more paper work regarding my situation including a letter from my tax preparer and I got that as well. The letter wasn't good enough even though they were the one's who asked for it. In the letter from my tax preparer he noted that I had been filing this way for the past three years. After that, they said the letter had to have the tax preparers signature in pen. I got it signed and faxed it over to them. Come to find out after faxing it, they never contacted me back so I thought everything was o.k. I soon got a letter stating that they put in in collections because of my past due balance. Not only did they not put in my financial aid papers so my balance could get paid, but they continued to let me accumulate a large bill by letting me stay there for two semesters. If it was such a problem regarding my financial aid, why did they continue to let me go to school. So now I am getting calls from their collection agency saying that if I don't pay it, they are going to suggest that my wages be garnished. I am a mother of four just barley getting by. Soon after I found out that they put me in colections because they failed to put in my financial aid, I transferred to Monroe College and got my financial aid successfully with no problem even with the way that I filed my taxes. If you ask me it is a crock of bull about that whole verification thing. I think they rather have people who pay out of pocket so they get their money faster. After all the phone calls I made, and continuose messages I left for my financial counselor that went unanswered, I am now facing more dept which I don't need. I don't understand why they didn't put my financial aid papers through and my other college that I am attending now did. If anyone knows how I can get this dept off my back please let me know.
