I recently applied at the university of phoenix.I was supposed to start on 12-8-08.

I started reading all of the complaints about the company and decided against starting. Part of my decision was that I found out how much they really charge for tuition.I did not find out from the counselor, oh no, they made it sound a lot lower.
My girlfriend attends this school. Turns out she had no idea that she was paying over $500 per credit hour. So after I found out the truth,I tried to withdraw. I filled out their withdraw form which you will not find. I faxed it to the financial advisor Karen Deman and the academic counselor Kena Ray. Then karen sends me an email saying that she didn't receive it. She said she would ask kena if she did. Here is her email::

Shoot! I deleted it because I assumed Karen had a copy and I don't process withdrawal forms. Brent, it looks like you may have faxed it to Karen backwards (since it was blank). Can you please fax it to her again? Thanks, and sorry about that J

I also attend UOP and have for about a year and a half. I moved and my internet was not hooked up like it was supposed to be when I got there and I missed my first two weeks of classes. Like an idiot I didn't have the phone number to my counselor and moved two hundred miles away from my family. My counselor called me ane worked it out so I could start classes with another block of students. He was very understanding and helpful.

I switched my major and my counselor made sure to let me know when was a good and a bad time to switch. He told me that if he did it when I wanted him to I would end up paying for my classes out of pocket but if I waited then it would be an easier transition.

I have nothing but good to say about UOP. I think that you people that believe that you have been wronged need to grow up and get a life. Do your research on other universities and then make an opinion. Those of you that want to sue I have one comment to make, GET A JOB!!! Stop trying to mooch off of the university and go file for food stamps but dont try to ruin my college experience.

Just because you assume they are trying to take you for more money doesn't mean it's true. If you never attended class, you will never owe any money. I applaud you on doing research, but beware of what is actual salient, peer-reviewed fact instead of internet fueled hype and sensationalistic assumptions.

The forms are pretty simple to locate at http://faw.phoenix.edu. Log in and go to additional forms. Also, you don't need to submit a form to withdrawl if you haven't started.

Also, we never chose to hide or mis-represent our tuition and school costs. go to phoenix.edu and you can get a complete breakdown right there. Only a fool shells out money without knowing how much is going where.

You did well to do research, but you didn't get un-biased research. We in the enrollment department get an email from our director of operations each week with hundreds of emails from our students extolling us on our service and thanking us for making a potentialy difficult transition a lot more smooth. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

I'm a student at UoP

This is more of a general response and not specifically directed at this comment, though it does apply. I'm currently enrolled at the UoP, and though I've had my issues, I am overall happy with my education thus far. I have attended a private university before the UoP and I had similar problems with them. These problems are going to happen anywhere.

I also believe some people need to do more research in the money involved. For one, this tuition includes books. In most of my classes, at least three books have been provided at no extra charge in the class' rEsource page. Based on book expenses, three books at my previous university's bookstore would have been between $200 and $300.

I know many people will blow this off and say I'm just an employee who's paid to search the web for negative responses, but maybe some people should be open to the fact that no university is perfect.

Are you kidding me? First of all why would you drop out of school in the first place? I go to UOP as well, after shopping local universities I decided that they are comparable if not LESS expensive than traditional universities. Say I was going to UT... a lot more expensive, and takes a lot more time. For a school that specializes to fit the needs of full time working adults, they do an excellent job. If your not intelligent enough to go to college then don't, but why try to re-direct the more intelligent people to not attend a university? We can't all work up to "team lead" at McD's so some of us have to get educated.

I agree with the guy above me... fax's go right side up buddy. Oh and its true, my old job I got fax's through MS outlook, sounds like you just need to get into school so that you can learn to think. Go post another response on a different consumer report website because you couldn't handle it, that will show them!!!

Stalkervan,

First of all, nice user name! You sound like a real winner!

I hardly feel that your inability to fax a document correctly and to the right recipient constitutes such a report.

Additionally, I attend Axia College of the University of Phoenix. Axia, which is the associate program, is $325 a credit, which is not over $500 like you and your girlfriend are claiming.

Also, my counselors informed me from the beginning that all conversations are recorded, therefore no false information is relayed.

I am quite pleased with my program and absolutely love my counselors. Many of my coworkers also attend this private university, and we all concede that it is the best alternative to traditional universities in the market. We have had nothing but positive support and professional treatment from our graduation teams and have referred dozens of our cohorts to the program.

It's good to see you have followed your paranoid delusions in filing such inaccurate reports, Stalkervan, rather than getting the education that I can see you so desperately need in order to become a contributing member of society.

P.S.
Nowadays faxes come straight to peoples' desktops via email, hence her deletion-- DUH
