Complaint Review: University Of Phoenix

University Of Phoenix - Lisa Pearson Director Of Financial Services they made a mistake with my student loans and now they are billing me $5750.90 They had full control of my funds. I was not allowed to continue only when I was 7 classes short of getting my degree. Had they not done this, I would have waited to the next semester and would have gotten a pell grant to pay for the rest of the classes. ripoff Metro Detroit Campus, Livonia, Michigan

I transfered to the University of Phoenix because I was a single mother and they offered once a week classes. I was a Office Administration mayor at the other school. I was told that their parallel curriculum was Business Administration. I agreed. I was told that they set up your schedule and you are to follow it.

After taking several classes I was told that they gave several classes that I didin't need in order to graduate. So, after I had to sit on those classes, and pass them, they were gone! puff! dissapeared! Fine;so I continued attending classes trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel, my diploma.

A while later, a woman from the financial department approached me in class with a form. She told me that I should sign this form allowing them to have control of the disbursment of my student loans. That they would assign me to classes, and return back to me any excess. Otherwise, I could face delays in getting my classes and this would be an inconveniencefor the school as well.

7 classes short of graduation, I got called in to their office saying that I owe them $5750.90 for tuition. And in order for me to continue to get my degree, I must pay them first. Now, I was a single mother and in financial aid. So I asked what happened? first they told me that funds were returned because I was not in school for the necessary time. (I was going to school full-time) then, I was told that I had reached the limit of student loans disburments and they had returned the moneys back to the lender.

I told them that they had control of the of my student loan disbursments. That they should have not given me those classes then without letting me know in advance that was the case and that I was to be responsible to pay at that time for those classes. I could have waited a few extra months and apply for pell grants and get classes done without incurring in any debts.

I tried to borrow the money from other sources and was denied credit.

I left the state who is in critical situation in pursuit of an employer who is willing to pay for tuition reinbursment in order to for me to finish my degree. I now found such employer in Arizona. I don't mind taking those classes again, and starting from zero, or that the University of Phoenix allows me to finish taking my seven classes that I need, through my employer's tuition reinbursment program, in order to increase my earning capabilities to pay for those classes. I am in good standing on my other student loans.

Since I only have 7 classes to graduate, I am willing to speak to an attorney and request assistance to report this matter to higher authorities.

I am a minority woman, over 40 and a single income status.

I have one more class to go and wondering should I transfer. I have an out of pocket fee that is due so I had to extend my class for another 29 days because I have to scramble to get the money. I thought the university was well until I read all the people responses. It is crazy. I am also a minority and would like to see justice. All I wanted was my degree. Now I am stucked with thousands of dollars wasted for out of pocket fees and a $30000 student loan I have to pay for a piece of paper.

Missing classes

First of all let me say how sorry I am for the torture UOP has put you through, it is not an uncommon story. I want to know what happens to these missing classes? Do you not keep track of your degree audit? Do you even get one? Did you even ask for one? Do you not know what you have and what you need to get your degree? The premis that you can't even keep track of your own progress seems absurd to me sitting from a traditional uni perspective. What's the story to the ignorance of UOP students that don't know where they are in their program???
