University Of Phoenix Online - Axia Online University of Phoenix victims Let the class action suit begin.. Phoenix Arizona

University of Phoenix online and Axia online have been providing us with enough BS answers to get us through at least our first years of school. And like the rest of you, I believed them and felt anything that went wrong was mainly my fault. After reading all of your posts and frustrations, I have decided we are not putting up with this anymore. University of Phoenix is about to be called out with a rude awakening.

We have all talked about a class action lawsuit and I believe the time has come for us to act on it. I will be happy to begin searching for lawyers who can take on the case but I need support and others behind me. This is a big corporation we are dealing with and one voice might barely make a dent.

If you have been burnt or are still being burned by this company then reply to this or email me and we will begin the process of payback. What this university is doing people is not right and I won't sit back anymore letting them walk all over me and all over you. We deserve a good, valuable education that takes us and our families further not backward in debt and self doubt.

Please email me or respond to this and we will get it underway..

Your idea of a class-action is nice, but needs fine-tuning...

I think it's great you want to do this, but I believe it needs to be done when it is started with calm and discernment, not out of anger and emotion. All of us that have been ripped off by UOP want what is right and just. If that can be obtained through legal means, then I am all for it. They 'took' me for $2500 and now are demanding I pay them $1000 - and when I figured out how absurd their system of what they call "learning" is I didn't just drop out, I ran screaming for the hills! Some 25 years prior to this experience, I had carried a 4.0 in a "real" college... imagine MY shock and dismay!

But we still need to approach this rationally. If you research them, you will see that this has been going on for years, we are not the first. They know how to deal with us! But perhaps we can see to it we are some of the last!

If you are sincere in your interest, might I suggest investigating a class-action suit and its requirements, then coming back and presenting everyone more concise information and instruction?

Meanwhile, consumer affairs' website offers another outlet such as this, but where attorneys may actually see what you have to say. The more places our collective voices are heard, the better the chances someone in authority might actually look into their practices and do something about them.

I wish you all the best of luck with this! As I do myself!!!

I have been trying to get help for the injustice done to me by the Uni. of Phoenix for about 3 years now. The keep taking more and more money out of my taxes and refunds. I am with you all the way. I have documented evidence and emails proving how scandalous their methonds are. I want this to stop! If this is the price of education, they can keep it. I will educate myself.

I turned in my final thesis, and because THEIR server was done the teacher failed ME. And she told me she could see on her IT something or other that I did try to submit it, but it was rejected. She refused to grade it. Said it as late. Tough. They took away my grants, made me pay with my scholarships. I specifically told them not to enroll me for the next semister, finacial aid told me I had to sign into class until she could settle it. The charged me for another semister!! I didn't do.!! Nobody will call me back and I keep losing more and more money and accumulating intrest on this money owed. I really need help.

Count me in on this lawsuit too, because I have been taking for 20000 and have recieved nothing in return. Do not get me wrong I do not have a problem with paying good money for an education. (I say this because I have noticed in here that many people critisize others like we do not want to pay.) The problem is the amount of money that we are paying for an inferior education. I have not learned anything at all in my tenure at this school, and I am afraid of being so far in debt with nothing but a peice of paper. I will participat in a lawsuit.

University of Phoenix class action suit

#19Consumer Suggestion

Sun, December 16, 2007

There are several programs out there, and steps that can be taken by those posting here that WILL have an effect.

I would suggest filing an FBI internet fraud cause, under whitecollar crimes.

In my case I was actually threatened with arrest (ARREST???) by a woman that did not identify herself as an attorney for refusing to disclose confidential rape information of another student in an unsecured environment. (lucky me, I dont call, I always like these things in bonified writing) I happen to be, shock, an advocate for rape victims and families. Of course I was not going to send it. They already had it.
So I filed a complaint with- the State Business Commision of Florida, who can regulate such. Then I filed a copy of her threats (yes I have them in writing) with the FBI.

THEN, I filed a complete copy with the Organization, CREW or Citizens for the Responsibility Ethics in Washington (very powerful group) They like to know if a Government Office will do what it says it does. It will catch someone's attention

citizensforethics.org/about/contact

We can complain and moan all we want to here on boards, but until the numbers start appearing in legitimate offices and enmass, it will do no good. Just to entertain most, here is what they call their "CODE OF CONDUCT" regulations.
It is amusing-at best.
Student Code of Conduct (copyright, UOP)

Question:
What is the Student Code of Conduct?
top
Answer:
It is published in the Students' Rights and Responsibilities section of the University Catalog and your Program Handbook:
The Student Code of Conduct of University of Phoenix supports the University's mission to provide access to higher education opportunities that enable students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their professional goals, improve the productivity of their organizations, and provide leadership and service to their communities.

Students are expected to conduct themselves ethically, honestly, and with integrity as responsible members of the University's academic community. This requires the demonstration of mutual respect and civility in academic and professional discourse.

A University is a marketplace of ideas and, in the search for truth, it is essential that freedom exists for contrary ideas to be expressed. Accordingly, students are expected to respect the rights and privileges of others and to foster an environment conducive to learning. Students are accountable for their actions and are required to work independently, as well as collaboratively with teams, in achieving learning goals and objectives.

By virtue of membership in the University's academic community, students accept an obligation to abide by this Student Code of Conduct. Conduct, either on or off-campus, that is determined to impair, interfere, or obstruct the opportunities of others to learn or that disrupts the mission, processes, or orderly functions of the University will be deemed misconduct and shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action.

Misconduct for which students are subject to disciplinary action includes, but is not limited to, the following enumerated violations:

Actions, verbal statements, and written statements which threaten or violate the personal safety of any member of the faculty, staff, or other students, or any conduct which interferes with the educational process or institutional functions.
Harassment, sexual or otherwise, that has the effect of creating a hostile or offensive educational environment for any student, faculty, or staff member.
Disruptive behavior that hinders or interferes with the educational process.
Violation of any applicable professional codes of ethics or conduct.
Failure to promptly comply with any reasonable directive from faculty or University officials.
Failure to cooperate in a University investigation.

Carrying of weapons on campus, at campus-sanctioned events, or when meeting with campus personnel. (This policy is not applicable to students who are law enforcement officers required by law to carry firearms at all times).
Using, dealing in, or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while in class, at campus-sanctioned events, or when meeting with campus personnel.

Cheating - using or attempting to use unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise.
Fabrication - falsification or invention of any information, citation, or document, or lying during a University investigation.
Plagiarism - representing the words or ideas of another as one's own in an academic exercise.
Failure to maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of personal or professional information communicated about clients, one's employer, other students or their employers.
Unlawful use or acquisition of copyrighted works.

Helping another student cheat, fabricate, plagiarize, or unlawfully acquire or use copyrighted works.
Violation of the policy on Acceptable Use of University Computing and Communication Resources for Students and Faculty.
Hazing (any action which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental health or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with any University-sanctioned organization)
Violation of University regulations and policies (in addition to those regulations and policies covered by items 1-16 above).
Violation of federal, state, provincial, or local laws or regulations that impacts the University's educational environment.
Procedure for Processing Alleged Violations of the Student Code of Conduct:

Alleged Violations:
An alleged violation of the Student Code of Conduct, unless related to student records, shall be forwarded in writing to the Campus Director of Academic Affairs, the Campus Director of Operations, or their designee.
An alleged violation of the Student Code of Conduct that relates to student records shall be forwarded in writing to the Registrar.
All alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct shall be subject to a fair and impartial process in determining whether or not a violation has occurred.

An alleged violation of the Student Code of Conduct may result in a warning or it may be subject to review by a Campus Committee as described below.
Investigation:
Violations of the Student Code of Conduct shall be investigated in a prompt and reasonable manner.

The investigation shall gather relevant evidence, including, but not limited to, pertinent documents and statements from witnesses.

While an alleged violation of the Student Code of Conduct is being investigated, a student may be removed from class, campus-sanctioned events, and other University functions after review and consultation with University Legal Services and/or the Office of Dispute Management.

Notification:
A student who is charged with a violation of the Student Code of Conduct shall be notified of the specific charge(s) in writing by a Charging Letter sent via Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested, or comparable means, and shall be given ten (10) days to submit a written response to the designated University official.
Failure of a student to respond to the Charging Letter shall result in suspension from the University following completion of the current course if the student is then actively attending classes and is not subject to immediate suspension.

In those instances where the campus determines the conduct does not warrant a Charging Letter, it may choose to issue a Warning Letter and/or provide counseling to the student.

Campus Committee:
After the campus investigation is completed and the student has responded to the Charging Letter, a Campus Committee shall be convened to review the file and make findings and recommendations to the Campus Director of Academic Affairs or the Campus Director of Operations (a designee may be appointed if the Director has recused himself/herself).
The Campus Committee shall be chaired by a full-time campus administrator.

The Campus Committee composition shall be at least three (3) impartial individuals who have no prior involvement with the student or the investigation: a campus administrator, a faculty member, and a student representative who is not a University employee. (Note: Students who are subject to a professional code of conduct that applies to their enrollment at the University shall have the composition of their Campus Committee adjusted as necessary to comply with that code).

Registrar's Committee:
After the Registrar's Office investigation is completed and the student has responded to the Charging Letter, a Registrar's Committee shall be convened to review the file and make findings and recommendations to the Registrar (a designee may be appointed if the Registrar has recused himself/herself).

The Registrar's Committee shall be chaired by an Associate Registrar or Director in the Registrar's Office.

The Committee composition shall be at least three (3) impartial individuals, who have no prior involvement with the student or the investigation, to include: an Associate Registrar, a Director in the Registrar's Office, and the Director of Operations or Director of Student Services (or designee) for the student's primary campus. (Note: Students who are subject to a professional code of conduct that applies to their enrollment at the University shall have the composition of their Campus Committee adjusted as necessary to comply with that code).
Committee Process:

Students shall be afforded the opportunity to address the Committee to make a statement in their defense. This may be done via teleconference.

Students are not entitled to representation by an attorney or any other third party at any point in the process.

Tape, digital, or other electronic recording of the Committee Meeting is not permitted.
The Committee members are given a Case Packet with all relevant information for the committee meeting, including any written response received from the student.

The Committee members sign a standard Confidentiality Statement for Committee Members and, after the Committee's deliberations, the Case Packets are collected and destroyed in order to maintain confidentiality.

Decision:
For campus cases, the Committee Chair delivers a summary report, generally containing Findings of Fact, Conclusions, and Recommendations, to the Campus Director of Academic Affairs or the Campus Director of Operations (or designee), who has the ultimate authority to accept, reject, or modify the recommendations of the Campus Committee and render the decision.
For Registrar cases, the Committee Chair delivers a summary report, generally containing Findings of Fact, Conclusions, and Recommendations, to the Registrar (or designee), who has the ultimate authority to accept, reject, or modify the recommendations of the Registrar's Committee and render the decision.
The decision shall be communicated to the student by the decision maker. The decision shall be sent via Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested, or comparable means.
Sanctions:

If a violation is found, disciplinary sanctions shall be based on the seriousness of the situation and may include, but are not limited to, documented counseling by a University staff member, loss of academic credit, suspension and/or expulsion.

Students who are subject to professional codes of conduct that apply to their enrollment at the University shall be sanctioned according to the requirements of the respective code.

A recommendation of expulsion by the decision maker shall be reviewed and endorsed by the Student Discipline Review Committee in the Office of Dispute Management before the campus communicates that sanction to the student.

Appeals:
In those instances where students are found to be in violation of the Student Code of Conduct, they may appeal the decision to the Student Discipline Review Committee (SDRC) in the Office of Dispute Management within ten (10) days of receiving the campus decision. The SDRC is usually comprised of a senior manager from University Services, a Regional Director of Academic Affairs, and an Associate or Assistant Dean from the accused student's college (or their respective designee). The decision of the SDRC is final and shall be communicated directly to the student and the campus, except in the case of a decision by the SDRC supporting a campus recommendation of expulsion (see H.3. above).

If the sanction against the student is expulsion, the review of the appeal shall be conducted by the Senior Management Review Committee (SMRC) in the Office of Dispute Management. The SMRC is usually comprised of the Provost, the Vice President of University Services, and the Dean of the accused student's college (or their respective designee). The decision of the SMRC is final and shall be communicated directly to the student and the campus.

Students subject to a professional code of conduct that applies to their enrollment at the University shall have the composition of the SDRC or SMRC adjusted as necessary to comply with that code.
