University Of Phoenix Online ripoff told me I had Financial Aid Grant that I didn't have to pay back, no money would come out of pocket, then after the third class I began getting a bill from a loan company that I never applied for, they tricked me! Phoenix Arizona
I was conversing via telephone in the beginning to see if I could qualify for financial aid, and was indeed told I was going to be receiving a grant that I didn't have to repay. In fact, I would have enough money to get a computer, books and tuition and not have any expenses out of pocket.
I completed an FAFSA Form and I guess the collage turned it over to what's called "ACS", because after being in my third Criminal Justice Program class I was told I needed to pay for the next class. They kept stalling with telling me when my Financial Aid would come through, my mother gave me money for my computer so I could start.
Then I began to communicate via email, so when I asked when my financial aid would be coming through I would have record of all of thier responses, which are all lies. They would say they didn't know what was taking so long, "it's coming through" "just be patient" I have evidence of these manipulating emails, I will continue working with legal advice, and look forward to a class action suit.

I agree with what was written. Did you look at the financial guide? Did you read what you were signing? Any time money is involved ALL companies will need to have your signature, or it would be illegal.
If you don't start reading, you will probably be ripped off a lot more...

#5Consumer Suggestion
Fri, March 10, 2006
Kathy,
I have a couple of suggestions to help you. This is something that should be done for ANY college when your funding is through sources other than your own:
Have a copy of your school catalog
Have a copy of the Fiancial Aid Guide Book for your school
Get a copy of the Student Guide from the US Department of Education (www.studentaid.ed.gov)
As a part of your enrollment process you probably went through the University's Financial Aid Web. You will be able to find a copy of your FA application with THE UNIVERSITY, Your FA Entrance interview, University Policies, General Policies and a Forms Status page with information when you completed steps.
The FAFSA is a Department of Education form that you fill out to qualify for and request Financial Aid. The data is then forwarded to the Financial Aid office(s) for the school(s) you input to recieve the data. This information is then matched up at the school(s) to generate an FA package according to your requests (PELL/ SEOG grants if eligible, Stafford Loans, Perkins loans).
ACS is an entity of the Apollo Group University system that aids in processing, applying, and tracking funding for the systems schools.
If you have a poor relationship with your FA Counselor, Enrollmkent Counselor, or Academic Counselor then ask to speak with their supervisor.
I hope that this helps.
