I started a graduate program in Special Education with the University of Phoenix Online in August 2004. After obtaining a job the school district informed me that I could not be emergency certified through Michigan if I was going to the University of Phoenix.

UofP tried to convince me that there should be no problem with the classes that I am taking and that they are accredited through Michigan.

Meanwhile, the Michigan Education Association says that I have to either transfer colleges to one that is in Michigan or resign within the next week. Because of this I have wasted time and money on my Masters Degree and am now without a job in education. I feel that I have been cheated out of a lot by the University and hope to receive some, if not total compensation for my loses.

Most states require that when going to an alternative education licensure program you go through a local institution that agreed to teach a certain course and/or offer a certain degree. It would be totally different if you were going the regular way, that is with an education degree.

So, you may want to go back and take care of that.
