I'm supposed to start at UOP on April 29th. I called the financial aid office today and to my horror, found out I have been lied to.

I spoke to Krashanda Graves in length about what the school had to offer. I told her I had been approved for Federal Aid, with my EFC as a 0. I specifically asked if this would be sufficient for my tuition and was told yes, that I would only be responsible for $880 for the year out of my pocket. We also discussed subsadized/ unsubsidized loans, and if their was the possibilty of a work study.

Well today I was told that the school only honors the pell grant part of Fafsa, and the $10K loan I took out wasn't going to be enough to cover my tuition. And to top it, that if my transcripts didn't arrive on time that I would be placed in a lower level, would not receive the credits (earned) even if they were confirmable, and that I would have to pay that to.

At this point I'm contemplating going to Phoenix to shove my foot up someones a*s. I'm trying to better my life and these people are rip offs. If anyone has any info they want to share to help me, please write!

U of P is in such a hurry to get students and their money that they do not take the time to wait for transcripts.

There is help... I also went there and the finacial aid department really has no idea what they are doing. Drop out of there before it is too late. They will set you up to take more classes then your student loan will cover. They will wait till it is too late for you to make other arrangements and expect you to pay the full tution for a class. When this happened to me I asked "do you want me to go out to the money tree and pick the money off the tree? I hope you know that the money is not in the shape of dollar bills". I have found a better school. The financial aid and academic advisor checked and rechecked just so that the only out of pocket expense I would have to pay is for my books. They looked at everything and yes it did take a little longer to start but it was all worth it.

If they are not willing to work with you and are not completely up front with you then you need to find a school that is. Remember this is your DREAM and this is their paycheck. Who has your best interest? Definetly not them!!!
