Hi, I am a prospective student whomay be transferring to UOP online to began classes really soon. I was up all morning earlier reading all of the alleged ripoff activities of this university. I felt confident in attending this college until i read these posts. I am in no way saying that what happened to the majority of deceived people isn't true, I am only saying that I am now rethinking my position on enrolling now.

I do agree that the cost of classes at this institution is high and that seems to be a main point in many of these points. I would rather not take the chance on repaying gov't loans to a institution if my degree is worth nothing and if my financial aid is not enough to cover tution and books.

I was told that my books would be no higher than $60 and that the classes are $1200. That it would take 3 weeks to get financial aid and that will cover my tuition and books. That if I received $6625 in financial aid, It would cover my tuition but not my books. Now which is it?Am I imagining things or was that a contradiciton on their part?

I also askedabout these posts from my academic advisor and was told that many former students may have had bad esperiences and that I wasn't the only one who asked her about these posts today.

All I am concerned about is whether my degree will be recognized by companies once i graduate IF I were to enroll in UOP online and that I won't get stuck with a huge bill and large student loans to pay back. I would rather go to school online as so I can spend more time with my children so if anyone out there can recommend other, accredited online colleges........it would be appreciated because I don't know what I am going to do now as far as UOPis concerned.

Not a wise choice from a consumer stance

For the expense, I don't feel that UoP is a good consumer decision.

If you're limiting yourself to an online education, you will likely suffer from many of the same difficulties faced by UoP grads no matter where you go. Right or wrong (probably wrong), many or most employers continue to be rather skeptical regarding online degrees.

But beyond that, UoP seems to have great difficulty in ensuring a quality education and delivering satisfactory services to its students. The quality education problem lies in its corporate philosophy of employing very low-wage professors. The "team" concept also seems to be quite counter-productive.

The lack of customer service, I believe, stems from the fact that they are operating an educational institution but running it like a used car dealership. People expect a great deal more from their universities.

So shop around before signing on with UoP. I would suggest finding a public university with an online component, if such exists.

Best of luck in all your endeavors!

Bottom line here, all the employers I work with think a UOP certificate or degree is worthless as putting chicken feathers on a bull frog an teaching it to fly.

Actually, most of the employers would probably look more favorably towards the bull frog - at least that's effort.

You've done the right thing by coming to ROR. By far, UOP/Apollo/aka AmwayU has the most complaints on this site of any educational entity.

Amway U claims to be the largest University in the country, yet is has not graduated ONE Fortune 500 CEO/CFO, one Flag Rank US Military Officer, a University President, distinguished artist (heck, Tom Hanks graduated from Sacramento State and Commander, US Military Sealift Command graduated from tiny Prarie View A&M!)

The bottom line is that UOP credits are worthless at any public land grant University or even Junior College. Heck, they're probably worthless to High Schools.

Go to USA Today for a quick stock quote. Type in APOL and see where their stock has gone the last two years: right down the toilet. Too, the SEC and Attorney General of New York are investigating Amway for back dating it's stock options.

Stick with a Community College or give Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on-line a try. These are top professionals at ERAU, concerned about their students first; they have a huge job database and a very active alumni that will get you work. Ask about their distinguised graduates. I forgot how many astronauts they've graduated so far.
