UPS has no THEIF PREVENTION WITHIN THE COMPANY... I bought a laptop from someone in Texas, had it shipped UPS to Louisiana and that is when it all started.  I bought a very expensive Laptop (Acer Aspire 6920) and had a few upgrades done to it like the Hard Drive and the Bluray DvD Player/Writer installed.  When I got it about 10 days later, It would not boot up to windows.  I called ups to file a claim and they said the shipper had to do this... I said ok I had them pickup the laptop 3 days later and ship it back to Texas.  I NEVER got a claim number for the return even though I asked for one several times and the one I did get was "you guessed it" NO GOOD.  So I called Claims and Damages and in the amount of 52 days later, finially I get an answer that it was shipped off for inspection.  Ok wait some more, 2 weeks later I was told it was sent back from inspection and then picked up again... Day 67, I call the shipper and find out that he no longer lives there and I have to start again... NOT GOOD, since I never got a good claim number I was only limited to the Tracking Number... Finally fedup with it all I ask UPS to just send it back to me... They did, now this part is in caps for a reason as you will see... I GET THE LAPTOP BACK AFTER 72 DAYS AND FIND OUT THAT THE 320 GIG 7,200 RPM HARD DRIVE/CADDY IS STOLEN, NOT ONLY THAT THE BLURAY DVD READ WRITE DVD DRIVE IS BROKEN WITH PEICES FALLING OUT OF THE BOX... OMG... I called Lost prevention and claims and every G**d**n person for 2 months telling UPS that they have a THEIF working for them and they can't even tell me which drive picked up the laptop for inspection... I never could get anyone to investigate this at UPS and finially had to except a claim for the first damages of $107.00 dollars.... the cost of the Hard Drive over that alone, Plus the DvD drive cost me over $200.00 dollars.  Does UPS CARE? Well to put it simply NO... I want everyone to know that if you ship anything with UPS that the likely hood of it getting LOST OR STOLEN IS HUGE!!!  UPS will not investigate its OWN G**d**n company and they make BILLIONS each year.  Do yourself a favor, don't use this shipping company as they do not care if its lost or stolen... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!

Hello-
I work for UPS...We do our best to investigate every claim. We have had some theft in our building, the thief was promptly found and fired. I process claims, we get a lot of customers that just want to file a claim when nothing is wrong, so we as a company have be careful. We leave pkgs for customers and we will get people who claim they never received the pkg..When we know they did. We have to pay the claim, but their home will become a signature required from then on. I am sorry to hear about your situation but there is NOBODY working at UPS that would have the time to take apart your laptop to steal the hard disk drive. If someone was going to steal something, they would have taken the entire computer not just your hard drive??? I hope you can get some help with this..Call 1-800-pick-ups.

UPS and FEDEX claims response policy

#4Consumer Suggestion

Fri, October 29, 2010

Unless you are a MAJOR customer of UPS or FEDEX, you should NOT use them.  Claims ....even if for insured items, will be REJECTED.  They will not honor claims for damaged items....always stating "inadequate packaging".  The only honest shipping company is the United States Post Office.  Believe me.......I have suffered losses from using UPS and FEDEX.  I have spoken to their delivery drivers, who informed me that claims will be denied ...... for reason given above.

Ship UPS only with SIGNATURE confirmation AND insurance!

I have also had bad experiences with UPS damage and loss, but not nearly as bad as FedEx or the postal service. FedEx is the WORST!

Anyway, never ship anything with ANY carrier without paying for SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION and INSURANCE. No exceptions. If you had both of these, you could take them to court and win.

ALWAYS protect yourself!

You get what you pay for!
