This is the second report I'm filing, because the first for some reason did not go through. I hope to find other consumers who are willing to file a lawsuit against UPS, because their handling of their customers is extremely unethical. You can contact me at stoyanovfineart@yahoo.com. I am an artist and I shipped a painting on antique wood worth $2500 from AZ to NY. The painting was wrapped extremely carefully with several rolls of bubbleswrap and packaed in a cardboard box on the outside. I spent 4 hours packaging it. Evidently, the package was shaken and thrown so hard that when it arrived a few pieces of the wood were chipped and the customer returned the painting. UPS took over a week to inspect the damage and now 2 months later through its claims company, Crawford & Company (TX) refused to honor the insurance claim, stating the ridiculous reason that: "UPS shall not be liable or responsible for: (3) loss or damage to any package...which occurred or arose prior to or after the course of transportation by UPS." Why should I ship a painting that is damaged? It is obvious that UPS does not wish to take any repsonsiblity to the quality of its services, but does offer insurance for them, without honoring it. They can afford to push around, because they know that an individual is likely to overlook the damage rather than get involved in a costly lawsuit against them. But we cannot let this company continue to rip us off -- if anyone has suffered a similar mistreatement, please contact me to get organized and file a lawsuit.
