I paid to have a 65lb printer shipped via UPS ground. The packaging was completed by the UPS store and I was assured, my package would arrive safely or UPS would take responsibility.

My package was damaged in shipping. UPS determined the cause of damage was insufficient packing procedure and materials. After the examination and determination, UPS/Crawford??? Returned my damaged printer. The printer that was returned to me was destroyed. If looked as if it had been thrown. It weighs over 65lbs so I believe it was dropped.

UPS thought I had packed the printer and they happily denied my claim. When they found out UPS store had packed the printer, they said I needed to take it up with the UPS Store, as they were not UPS.

Before I realized my claim had been denied, I received a call from a company called Crawford. They called to inform me that UPS would be calling me and that my printer was being returned. When I tried to get details about my shipment, I was told that the employee did not work for UPS and that she was only a third party vendor. She stated she did not know anything only that she had a message to call me and tell me my printer was on the way and that UPS would be calling me. My destroyed printer arrived within hours after that conversation. I never did receive a call from UPS. In fact, I never reeviced any information from UPS until I demanded to see in writing the results of the damage inspection. To this date, UPS has never acknowledged my damage.

The UPS store caused damage to my property due to insufficient packing. UPS or its third party vendor Crawford, destroyed my damaged printer. The initial damage to the printer was just a matter of the popcorn kernels used in packing had been lodged in the internal parts of the printers. This was a repairable issue. Crawford or UPS absolutely destroyed the computer and now it is only good for scrap parts. Throughout it all, the only thing I can get from UPS is that they are not liable for either of the damages. The UPS store and Crawford are not UPS. The use the UPS name, brand, proprietary systems, handle products and consumers, But when something goes wrong… They are not UPS. I am up for any class action lawsuits out there.

I work at a UPS Store so I know what you need to do. (I DO NOT work for the UPS Store you are filing a concern about!) Since you state The UPS Store packed it, you should be covered under what is called "The Pack and Ship Guarantee" or "Pack and Ship Promise" This means if The UPS Store packed it with new materials, you are guaranteed to be refunded the price of shipping, price of packaging and the Declared Value or Insured value.

If you paid extra for Declared Value (AKA Insurance) then you are obligated for the insured value. Do not let UPS throw you around. You can only work through The UPS Store as they are legally the shippers, you are a customer of The UPS Store, not UPS. Ask The UPS Store if you paid extra for insurance and if you're covered by the Pack and Ship Guarantee. If you are, then UPS must refund you for everything. Even if it was packed improperly by the UPS Store, if you're covered by the Pack and Ship Guarantee, you are still obligated to the full refund.

Do not become upset or hostile when dealing with The UPS Store, the will not want to help you. Remember it is not The UPS Store's fault, UPS damaged it. Don't become upset if it takes a while, UPS claims take months to complete if they are over $200.

I hope this helps you sort it out.
