Complaint Review: US Periodicals

I was contacted by a "Collections Agency" requesting I pay $87 for a two year subscription to Discover Magazine that I supposedly ordered in June 2011.  This is interesting since I was in Brazil at the time and my wife never buys anything from phone telemarketers.  I was told that I needed to pay and that this failure to pay has already been reported to the credit agencies.

I stated that I did not order this since I was in Brazil for the month of June and was told that someone else in my home must have ordered it.  I asked to hear the recording of the phone call accepting the subscription order but was told that the agency did not have access to that and I would have to contact US Periodicals.  I asked for their phone number and was told the agency did not have that info.  I was told I should have received an invoice from US Periodicals and looked back through the last 4 months of bills I have received and did not find this invoice.

I tried to find their contact info on the web but could not locate it.  I found the number on this site and called and got a really bad answering machine recording which sounded like a home type answering machine, not commercial equipment (yes, I install commercial audio, recording, and phone systems and equipment).  I left a message to call me back and have not received a return call.

This appears to be another telemarketing scam.
