I originally worked for Cognisa Security, and everything was going great until US Security Associates bought them out. I was a Security Officer working at Dollar Rent A Car at the San Diego airport as a post. It was okay at first, until the staff at Dollar was treating me badly. I worked the hardest of all the other guards, and yet I was treated the worst. I was dealt a great injustice when I worked there, and they let me go for no reason whatsoever, which I'll get into later.

For example, where can I start? I was never given a half hour lunch as required BY LAW, during a 9 1/2 hour shift. I shouldn't have to request it...I called the on duty supervisor via radio, and I'd have to get a hold of him several times and then he'd make some lame excuse as to why he didn't answer the radio for an hour or more.

Second, I was forced to work in very uncomfortable conditions. I'll elaborate by saying that I was forced to work under an extremely hot lamp, when they KNEW that I had health conditions where I couldn't. I informed the staff of Dollar that I couldn't physically work like that, but they didn't care. They insisted that I keep the light on inside the guard shack. I sometimes turn it off because of the uncomfortable heat.

Third, I went to the office supervisor at Dollar to inform her of this. I was professional and told her what was going on. And here's the big red flag... she filed a report behind my back saying that I "lashed out", which was completely untrue! The on-duty manager took her side, without hearing my side. They asked me to sign it, and I refused, because it was untrue. And another red flag was that the report was signed by the manager, who didn't even work or show up that day!

Fourth, a co-worker tells me that I'm being replaced, after four months of hard work in uncomfortable settings. They had to go behind my back and write up the paperwork....I wish they would have told me up front if they had a problem with me.

And last but not least, I tried to call my main office but they took the client's side! Without hearing my side of the story! That went double for the main corporate office in Atlanta! They said "You have to listen to the client!".
Yes, I understand that, but not when my health/safety is on the line!

So for those of you who want to go work for US SecuritY Associates, think twice, I implore you. It's absolutely imperative that you steer clear of this fly-by-night company at all costs! They'll just use and abuse you. When their contract with a post expires, they toss you aside! What kind of company is that?

Not that bad

#6UPDATE EX-employee responds

I am an ex employee of US Security and have worked for several other security companies from what your wrote you didn't have it that bad.

Yes by law you are required a lunch but security companies get around this by stating its an "on duty lunch break" and at least you got a guard shack that might have gotten a bit hot but at least you aren't working 12 hours in a scrap yard, running your own car buring your own fuel to stay warm or freezing in an unfinished warehouse with no heat. You signed up to be a security guard which means you are going to be working in adverse conditions, it comes with the job.

I am not trying to be mean but the client pays your wages and if you won't do the job they will find someone who will.

Favoritism and Harrassment

#6UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, July 29, 2008

I was also a victim of favoritism and harrasment from this company. The Project Manager that I worked under was sexually harrassing me. The client liked him so much, but we were constantly having turnovers trom the company; and the managers cared so much for him so who would believe me? I had to tolerate sexual assault and provacative material from this company for nine years.

When I made a complaint to upper managerment, nothing was done. So I finally quit the company. Maybe the company is not ran like this in all of the states I should hope not, but they do need to thoroughly screen their Project Managers because the company makes poor choices when it comes to managment. I think that I was violated by the company; they don't respect women. I did all of the work from previous shifts and just got burned out until finally I just told them that I resigned and found something else.

I have dignity and respect about myself so I shouldn't have to succomb to perverseness in order to keep a job; I will not be treated like a prostitute. I have much dignity and respect for myself. There are better jobs out there that won't tolerate that kind of foolishness so stay encouraged and keep looking. Don't give up. You will get a better job with honest management.

You Were A Victim of SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION

#6Consumer Suggestion

Wed, March 15, 2006

This is the sort of stuff that happens to female security officers ALL of the TIME! They have to work so much harder than the guys and get NO back-up or support from male supervisors and they have to work smart because most criminals think women can't handle themselves in a fight.

You might want to get out of private security wokr and apply for law enforcement jobs direct, for instance a constable's office. There is a LOT of sexism and racism there but it won't be quite as overt and you will be better paid for putting up with it. Go into corrections work because they always need guards for the female inmates to avoid sexual harrassment and discrimination suits.

What happened to you is SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION but you are going to have a very difficult time proving it. I couldn't prove it even when I was stalked and my life was threatened and the guy who slashed my tires and pulled a gun on my (male)cousin was never fired form the security company where we were working. Nobody was willing to testify and all of the management backed this guy until he stole a gun from one of them and used it to pistol whip his wife and tried to shoot and kill their little daughter. He got prison for that and can never be in security work again according to the laws of Texas.

But they would hire him back tommorrow because he and the manager of the company had a "Brokeback Mountain thing" going on.

Count your blessings that you are now free to find somewhere else where it won't matter to be a woman.
