Complaint Review: US Veterans Assistance Foundation

On 9/20/18, I received a phone call indicating that a Veteran's support organization was collecting donations. The gentleman claimed to represent a Political Action Committee supporting veteran's issues and that I could donate "by envelope".  I agreed and was transferred to a female service representative who proceeded to ask for my credit card information. I refused and stated I would not give that information over the phone to anyone who initiated solicitation.  She became aggressive and tried to talk over me.  I again stated that I would only donate if I received something in the mail.  Eventually she agreed to take my mailing address.

After receiving the envelope, a quick internet search revealed that this "PAC" was mimicking an actual organization out of Wisconsin. They had appropriated their logo as well.  A review of their PAC activities shows a considerable amount of money being raised with zero expenditures toward veterans or veteran benefits. 

The letter I received was from a Robert R. Piaro, President/CEO.  The Postmark was stamped SEP 21 2018 from ZIP Code 53005, Brookfield, Wisconsin.  Part of the letter actually states, "Although our organization's registered address is in Fredonia, Wisconsin, please use the mailing address provided on the payment coupon."   That address is "US Veterans Assistance Foundation, PO BOX 5230, Elm Grove Wisconsin 53122-5230".    Three different address locations? 

FYI- the real "Veterans Assistance Foundation" is located at 312 Superior Ave, Tomah, WI 54660! Their web address is http://vafvets.org/
