my teenage daughter went to florida on springbreak along with all the other teenagers breaking. She had roundtrip tickets to florida and back home to ny. sounds simple and ordinary right? wrong..she missed her flight because she was late. not very responsible on her part, I strongly agree. but, nothing unusual. happens all the time. so she calls from the airport because now she's scared and worried.. i heard her fear and her tears wich automatically upsetted me. i told her to calm down and let me speak with a represantative. she say "mommy no-one is here they closed down everything.. No wonder why she was scared..Anyway i said lady (that's her nickname, because she is such a lady) you have to be able to speak w/someone you cannot possibly be at the airport alone.. she said mommy all they gave me was a 1-800 # and left. they are closed for the night. when i called the 1-800# first rep. stated she will not be returning home on their flight.. I started crying because now i was scared. i asked for a manager and she said my daughter had forfieted her ticket because she was late.. i said thats ok can we get her on another flight please she's at the airport by herself and doesn' know what to do and i don't either.. I guess in a way i was hoping for a miracle, because margaret (the manager) did not even stay on the line for more than 4 minutes before she hung up.. my daughter is still not home and it is now Monday 03-24-2008 . she was scheduled to be home on 03-22-2008 Easter eve. I havent slept at all this weekend. This airline needs to be exposed.. They are ripping consumers off w/no compassion nor sympathy.. As far as i am concerned they are responsible for my daughters well being and safe return home.. GOD BLESS US ALL......SAD AND WORRIED MOM.....

Buy Her a Ticket

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sun, March 30, 2008

What happened to the other teenagers that went with her? Why didn't she travel with a responsible adult? She obviously had a non-refundable ticket and when she missed her plane she should have called the 800 number and told them what happened then purchased another ticket for a subsequent flight. I assume that she had a credit card. Where has she been for two days? Did you contact the airline and arrange for a ticket? What are you doing except worrying? You are right - people miss planes all the time and due to their carelessness end up paying hundreds of dollars for a new ticket. The airline is not going to forgive her and put her on the next plane. Airlines stopped doing this about 20 years ago except for first class travellers and people in both first and coach who have full fare refundable tickets. I agree that they should be more sympathetic but they aren't.
