Recently I received an email thanking me for my inquiry to a job position as a 'home based' shipping point for packages coming in from over seas or going out to over seas. The initial email in it's entirety is posted below. The initial email came with two attachments, a application.doc and EmploymentAgreement.pdf. More on those later.

We handle only fully paid shipments and we never deal with any customers that cannot be verified as a legitimate business and have a valid reason for using our services. This is a seemingly legitimate job, but I thought I would look it up on Ripoff Report. Apparently, this is a brand new scam because there is no listing for it anywhere on the internet.

So I went searching for this companies website. I mean, if your going to have a web based company, you should have a full website. I found 2 websites for this company. The first website >>Here<< is very crude and makes me think SCAM all the way! Then I found this site >>Here<< and started to second think my first thought.

The problem arose when I tried to use the contact phone number that I found on the site. It starts out seemingly harmless, stating the company name and using an automated directory to help you out. I found that no matter what number you push, you get a few seconds of music and then it automatically hangs up on you.

I did a search on the name of the director of the business. I found this person is a 58r old female and owns a few other businesses. I'm going to assume, for now, that this identification is either stolen or used for other scams besides this one.

I looked over the Employment Agreement and the Application. I found that, for a job that deals with such personal items as postal mail and packages, the application was very short and lacked the details a company would need to make sure that the person they are hiring is real and not a criminal.

Then Employment Agreement wasn't even what I really expected. It had a lot of words but lacked the authoritative tone and feel that you would expect when your going to be working with the delicate information that you would be subjected to.

If you have ever applied to FedEx or USPS or UPS, you know that they are no nonsense and have strict guidelines you need to adhere to. They also have an extensive background check and process, just to be considered for employment.  This company lacks all of that.

By now all I see are hugh red flags and red flashing lights. On curiosity alone, I filled out the application and sent it in. And I received an email back, welcoming me aboard! This new email came with 4 attachments; Appointment letter.doc, EmploymentAgreement.pdf, i-9.pdf, and W4.pdf.

Again, this is all seemingly legit, but I have my suspicions. They want me to print out the documents, fill them out and fax them to them.

Here is the Appointment letter.doc

I noticed that there was no actual phone number for the first company on this form, and now there is a second company with a whole new website and phone number. So I called the new phone number, hoping to get some info on this other company. To no surprise, this new number is disconnected. Big shocker there. Even though this new website is very elaborate and seems like it could be a real business, I'm going to assume it's a front also.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY: Even though this is as far as I have gone in pursuit of this job offer, I don't feel like being Ripped off at this time. So I filed a tip with the FBI on this company. I'm hoping to hear something from them and/or anyone on this site that has gone any further than I have with this.

Take care and keep yourselves safe,

Good thinking on your part, OP.  These scammers are not stupid.  They will use different pseudonyms in their mailings, different addresses, different terminologies, etc., so that it will be difficult to perform an effective key word search for their scam.  The best thing to do is to check this site often in order to keep up with such scams, as well as many different others.

When I came upon this scam, I did an extensive search of the key vocabulary (business name, key persons named, key language, ...etc...) used in the scam email sent to me. If there are several reports about this exact scam with it's exact wording and names, it did not come up in any search. Thus, I filed this report.

If someone comes across a business or person they are suspicious of, they would come here  to see if there are any reports about them. I did exactly that. Now others can use key words to find this report, which is the only report worded exactly like this one.

I have no further information except that  this type of scam comes in many forms from many different people. I was duped once before in the past by someone I was talking to in a chat room. She asked me if I would help her out and accept some packages. Being the nice guy I am, I was always eager to help someone out. I was contacted by one of the businesses that sent me the packages, which subsequently lead me to contacting the FBI and saved myself the hardship of having to explain myself in a dark interrogation room.

No, this is not a new scam.  It's been around for a few years, and there are many reports of it here on RoR

You'll be asked to mail packages full of illegal and/or stolen items and possibly illegal drugs to foreign countries.  And you'll probably receive a check in the mail, for not only your "salary", but will include a few thousand dollars "extra" which they will ask you to send overseas for them via Moneygram.  Of course the check will be returned to your bank within a couple of weeks marked as NSF, NO SUCH ACCOUNT or FORGEDYour bank will not be happy about this, to say the least, and will require you to pay back every cent of this check, even the thousands of dollars you sent to the scammers in that foreign country.  And they may also file charges against you for depositing a forged check, or for bank fraud, especially if you can't pay back all of the money immediately.

Additionally, the FEDS ( FBI, Postal Inspectors, US Marshals, etc. ) will most likely be knocking at your door concerning the mailing of those illegal packages.  And, just like Lucy, you'll have "a lot of 'splaining to do" in order to avoid jail time for all of this illegal activity.

I sincerely hope that you didn't send these scammers any personal information, as it will be used by them in the future.
