USAA Insurance, USAA Savings Bank, USAA Federal Savings Bank USAA-ripoff, extortion, bribery San Antonio Texas

USAA used to be a respectible company but no longer!
I am 'soon to be was' a member of over 20 years and have mistakenly believed that it was a good idea to work with this company for both insurance and banking services. In the 20 years that I have had the insurance about 3 claims have been made with no problems. To that I have to say that the insurance may still be ok but I must wait and see what happens next.

I am currently involved in a divorce and cause of that was forced to file bankruptcy. This is when the trouble began.

I was sent a letter stating that they have tried to contact me numerous times, encouraging me to resolve you outstanding balance on a debt with USAA Federal Savings Bank or USAA Savings bank. First off I have not had any recent communications from USAA about this since the account was not even past due but as soon as they recieved notice of a pending bankruptcy they decided that thy could use extortion tactics to collect the debt as stated in the next portion of the letter:

In keeping with USAA's core values and commitment (ha) to the membership, we will begin discontinuing your business relationships with USAA companies and we will not provide you with new USAA products or services, to the extent of the law.
We have:
Blocked your access to usaa.com.
Revoked any electronic document delivery agreements, If you have any documents stored with electronic document delivery they will no longer be available to you on the Internet.
Terminated Web BillPay, (something payed for each month) Quicken and/or Microsoft Money services available through usaa.com.

We understand that your financial difficulty may be due to factors outside your control, and we would very much like to assist you in making arrangements to resolve this debt. Once you debt is paid, we MAY be able to return to a regular business relationship.

First off Banking and insurance are separate industries and should not be tied together in any fashion with that I should still be able to access insurance services on usaa.com. Second the debt in question is a credit card and is not tied to my bank accounts therefore should not be cancelled due to a credit card debt.

With all that said I recommend strongly with working with a company that does not value your business and I am very glad (lucky) that I have not used any of thier other services as all would be lost in one fail swoop due to something out of my control.

The debt in question was current as of the date of the letter I had just made a double payment to make it current prior to filing bankruptcy but yet when I called three weeks after the payment cleared they say that I am 2 months behind in payments if this is the case the I want my money returned as it was not applied to my debt.

The extortion is that if I don't pay a debt that is fully covered by the US bankruptcy laws then I lose everything even if it is not related to the debt.

This company is a ripoff and uses extortion for recovery of debt that the US says I have the right to clear so that I could have a fresh start.

I hope that everyone in the world gets to read this as this company is not fit to serve our military personell or anyone else.

I have been a member of USAA for over 30 years. I also had a credit card with USAA Federal Savings Bank. In 1993, I was laid off my job and was unable to pay the credit card debt, which was $2,400. When your in financial dire straits, you cut back and do what you can to feed your family. USAA charged off the debt, and I was punished by having to deal with this charged off debt on my credit history for seven years. I continued to use USAA for my insurance, and I even have my Roth IRA still with the Bank.

Then last year, I received the same letter as described above, stripping me of all access to my accounts, and USAA telling me that they will no longer insure my vehicles, until I pay the credit card debt of $2,400. Folks we are talking about a debt that was charged off 16 years ago! Can I afford to pay the $2,400 now? Absolutely. I got back on my feet and I am doing very well. Will I pay it? Absolutely not! This debt was on my credit for seven years? Why? Because that's the punishment we as consumers get when we don't pay a debt. Did I deserve it? Absolutely, and I paid the price in higher interest rates over the years. And if USAA would have done this at the time, I could have accepted this. But to take my insurance money and IRA money for the next 16 years, then one day pop this on me? Its disgraceful, and extortion.

I have moved my Homeowners insurance to Country (which was actually cheaper), I have moved my vehicle insurance to Geico (which was cheaper), and I have moved my IRA to another bank.

Screw you USAA. After 30 years, it is I, not you, who no longer wishes to do business with you. Good riddance.

USAA is one company. If you're too ignorant to realize that you can't blow off your credit card and still expect your other accounts with the SAME COMPANY to be okay, then you probably can't read this rebuttal either. Get a life and stop blaming a financial institution for your own mistakes.
